I think this best go here.. was debating on having it in painting and modelling as it kinda directly involves that but...

I have these shoulder pads and I kind of need to know if theres any significance as to what shoulder what goes on.. I'm kind of a noob when it comes to marines like this and don't want to go putting my shoulder pads on in an incorrect way.

The pads in question!

No I don't think there is. Blood Angels love ornate armor and they personalize it to reflect their individual tastes. You can put them wherever you think it looks best.

To be honest there is no right or wrong way of going about it, but if you look closely in the BA codex you'll notice that any shoulder pad that has some sort of Wing Type Symbol is on the left shoulder. You can easily do it however you want, but fluff wise all angelic wings should go on the left shoulder pad.

Look at the page with the Sanguinary Guard in color in the codex and you'll see those large Angel Wing shoulder pads are all on the left shoulder, but its up to you how you go about it! If you want to be fluffy then just follow the book. It tends to follow some rules when it comes to Aesthetics.

I've been using a mix of Death Company and other kits to make my BA, and I do it with one ornate shoulder pad on the left shoulder, and one plain one (maybe one of the plain ones with something hanging from it) on the right. This leaves the right open for me to paint unit markings/numbers. I saved aside all the ones with really prominent Xs or skulls and now that I've built a unit of actual Death Company, those guys are all getting two ornate pads- one with a skull on one shoulder, and one without on the other.

Ideally I'm wanting them both to be semi-ornage, this guy is going to be my chapter master its just I know the sanguin priests all wear there feathered' like pad on the left I was wondering if thats how it had to be done or was the general way of doing things or if it was just sanguin priests and GW's way of doing it.

I.e if it had any background to the way they have there pads. It's just having the feathered on the right would have been a better color composition (due to the color of the models arm) then to have it on the other side but I'm not willing to sacrifice taboo for the sake of a color wheel! I have the technology and will adapt!

Its essentially GW's way of doing it which essentially makes it how it should be done. Doesn't mean you can't give some of your Marines 2 Shoulder Pads of the same design because you think it looks cool.

Blood Angels follow the Codex Astartes more or less.

That means: Chapter Symbol on the left side, Company designation on the right and squad role in the helmets (Tactical, Assault, Devastator, HQ) the other way around for Terminators.

They mark squad number this way:

And Company number this way:

And squad role this way:
