Heres the situation....Nightfighting with with imotekh, a lord, 2 cypteks of destruction, and a cryptek of transmogrification with a tremorstave.I declared shooting on his vehicle, rolled 2d6, got 4, multiplied that by three to come up with 12 inch range. Every unit in the squad were within 12 inches of the vehicle except for the cryptek with the tremorstave. the range of the tremor stave is 36" and its an assault 1, blast. He said that i could absolutely not use it because i was out of range. I thought, according to what i read off of page 95 of the BRB that i could still target and fire at his vehicle irregardless of the nightfighting, adding a d6 to the range scattered if i missed. He denied this and would not let me point it out to him in the BRB he had on hand.
Am I wrong?
Thanks!

Only if it's also a ordnance barrage weapon.

Those are not ordnance barrage weapons so your opponent was correct, though he should have allowed you to open the rulebook, and try to find the rule you thought you were quoting.

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

You seem to have mixed up unit and models there

Night fighting asks if the *unit* is within Spotting distance. Measuring between units (what youre doing with night fighting) only requires you to measure between the two closest models in each unit; if they are within range (spotting distance) then the whole unit is within spotting distance.

So the tremor stave absolutely CAN fire, as the unit is within spotting distance. You then check LOS (remember, spotting distance /= LOS) and weapon range as normal - and from the sounds of it you were well within range!

Nos has it. If one model in the unit is within spotting distance, they are all eligible to fire. Then it comes down to weapon range and LOS.

1. Just one model in the unit has to be in spotting distance for Nightfighting. Then you check normal range and LOS from each firing model.
2. Ordnance and Barrage are two different things. Barrage weapons can fire without LOS. Ordnance weapons cannot (unless they are also Barrage).
