Just took delivery of the new mega paint set, so I can try out comparisions between new and old paints. If anyone wants me to compare a particular pair of paint (new GW vs old GW, I don't have any Vallejo etc) then I'll post up a swatch if you let me know.

EDIT : OK here's the first few. More to come...

Few notes : Some of the recommended new paints are Base paints rather than Layer paints. In practice it doesnt make much difference, as the Layer and Base paints don't seem to be much different. The new Layer paints have a far higher pigment count, and I was really impressed with them. Not so much with the Base paints. Also, where there was a big difference between the colours I put down the nearest closest paints as well for comparison.

Could you show Gehenna's Gold against Shining Gold? I'm in the middle of painting some Honour Guard for Dante and running a bit low on Shining Gold!

All of the old ones alongside recomended 'equivalents' please!

That's exactly what I am/was/will be doing, but as I don't have the paint set i'll happily hand the torch over to you if you can get decent pics.

ooh yes please! erm all of them If you can be bothered to (and infact have the corresponding older colours from GW)
I did a handful today. But i only bought 12 of the new paints, and only 6 of those had equivalents for me to compare on a swatch

The 6 colours I do have new and old colours of are shown in the pic below;
Spoiler:

But the Hawk Turquiose I have to compare to is rather old, 3-4 generations of paint pot old!! (all other colours are against the pot style that just went out)

Please show the equivalent of bleached bone, with and without the gryphone sepia wash equivalent. The colour charts that GW have look nothing like the paints in the tubs!

bleached bone and ushabti bone are both on the swatch I posted above. I've got seraphim Sepia That i could put over some, but not Gryphone Sepia to compare against for you.

Sotek Green is very close to the last Hawk Turquoise but perhaps a bit more of a blue to it (despite being called Sotek GREEN). I've been able to integrate it into my Wraithkind fine, can't really tell much of a difference to be honest.

Definitely interested in seeing the golds though.

They look very similar overall to me other than the fleshtones.

Be interesting to see if the new golds are as good as vallejos now. They would have an amazing metallic range if they could nail the golds

As I've got an Angels of Absolution army and used Dheneb stone instead of bleached bone I'm concerned about any difference in shade! How does the recommended new colour measure up?

Thanks Stormphoenix, much appreciated.

Your photos do make the darker paints almost impossible to differentiate between though. To the eye, Caliban green is very different to DA green, and very similar to Orchide shade, though your swatch shows it as nigh on identical (due to the swatch of paint being at maximum opacity, and the contrast of the photo caused by the white paper reflecting hard into the sensor, which then compensates by dropping the exposure).

I have included my initial swatches of the demo paints here for the sake of completion, and though they do show the difference between the greens that I mentioned a bit better, I should add that until anyone posts up some excellent photos or high quality scans we shouldn't take any pics as gospel, and the only way to really tell is to check by eye. Unfortunately this doesn't really help those that need to mail order their paints of course.

Lost in Australia, somewhere.

Some of these colours scare me, some of them are really noticeably different. Old Space Wolves Grey looks nothing like its new paint analogue.
