In the rulebook it talks about how something like a Warboss and Weirdboy can attach to the same unit to become a super powerful squad. Than it goes on to talk about monsterous creatures. Now my example in question is a Farseer + Avatar + Storm Guardians, is this possible? Is the rule talking about that you can't join a squad like a carnifex or a single on like a Wraithlord? Or would that also limit the Avatar even though he is a IC? Thanks in advance!

avatar is a monstrous creature. i also don't believe he is an IC. and any model that consist of a single model by itself cant join or be joined by people. (ie a single carniefex, or a greater demon iirc)

if the avatar is an IC then he still cant join due to the fact that monstrous creatures can only join other monstrous creatures. this is why pre faq hive tyrants could not join hive guard, due to them not being MC's

on the other hand Nobz they decided it was in the best interest of ork society that they "Go Green" as such they specifically modified their warbikes to not make giant smoke, dust, grit, clouds. Instead they are all about driving with clean air, one might say their bikes Gak out rainbows.

Almost right there, but a Carnifex isn't always a unit consisting of a single model - a Carnifex Brood is 1-3. Thus an IC can join a lone 'fex but not for example the Avatar or others that are always one.

This. An IC cannot join any unit which always consists of a single model. Carnifexes don't. An Avatar does.

The rule refers to models which can NEVER be in units of more than one - so you can join a Warrior Prime to a Carnifex (because it can come in broods of 1-3) but not to a Trygon (because it's only ever a single model in the unit).

The Avatar isn't an IC so can't join units.

MC ICs can join units like any other ones, there's no limit like MCs joining MCs or anything. The Hive Tyrant could always join Tyrant Guard - the problem was whether or not he continued t act as an IC (and so could leave the unit again) and what exactly the Tyrant Guard shield wall rule did because normally you can target an MC IC even if it's in a unit.

This ^ just because it is a single model doesn't mean it can join other units, a now classic case is Mephiston who although infantry, cannot join any other unit and cannot have a priest etc joined to him.

Hive Tyrants are never ICs.

Thanks everyone. I suppose my confusion was that I didn't know an Avatar was not considered an IC. All cleared up!

He was an IC and an MC in the previous codex.
