Here is a pic of a marine with only Mephiston Red and a wash of Carroburg Red. Nothing else was done on this model. The wash was done over the entire model, not just in the cracks. This works especially well on the shoulders as only the inner area on the edges is shaded.

I'll be likely using this and a highlight for my Red Hunters army.

Are you going to go back over it with Mephiston Red? Or layer Evil Sunz Scarlet and leave the wash in the recesses? Or H/L with E.S.S.? I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my Blood Angels...
