As the title suggests I need to know of ANYTHING in my house that will strip paint off plastic models...

I already know of Fairy Power spray and dettol...but does anyone know of any others?
If I'm careful could I use nail varnish remover?

I'm kinda in need of an urgent reply as I have not ruined two models while trying to paint something up for a competition this Friday...

As always, any replies and help will be greatly appreciated

Nail polish remover is acetone, which will destroy any plastic figures you put into it, Metal ones would be fine.
Try oven cleaners, and window cleaners, most brand do work to some extent... just some much better than others.

I am currently using flash lemon floor cleaner without any problems though these are on older necromunda plastics but they should be fine.

I've got a load of plastic Space Marines that I want to strip and repaint. In the past I'v only stripped metal figures with acetone (which works incredibly well, infact its probably overkill!)
But for plastics I dont really know what is the community favorite product is? I understand that a huge portion of the cleaning products on the shelves at the shops will do the trick. Is there a 'best' one? or one thats rubbish and should be avoided?

TBH your not going to find better/cheaper/easier to obtain house hold products for stripping that the two you mentioned. Get to your local supermarket, pick some up, give a day to strip and clean the models and your good to go.

If you use acetone free nail polish remover and put the model in for only five minutes it should be OK.

If you leave it in for longer it will start to be affected.

I personally put models into Dettol for a good long soak, which gets most of the paint off. Then after washing and drying they go into the nail polish remover to get rid of the gummy primer residue.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

So for the dettol do I water it down?
I've used it before but the paint became gunky and I lost detail on some marines :/

I go with neat and then after 24 hours its a wipe down with a cloth to remove most of the gunk and after that its in with a cocktail stick to get the last of it out of the nooks and crannies.

Use it neat but when celaning do not introduce any water, clean off in Dettol with Dettol and on old toothbrush, once you have most of the gunk off you should be okay to do a quick rinse in fresh Dettol, then hot soapy water to clear that off, leave to dry and then prime + paint.

I'm currently trying to strip a load of plastics I painted in my youth to a terrible standard.... unfortunately, I've only got dettox in the house. Would this still work?

"You have commited the ultimate heresy. Not only have you turned your back on the Emperor and stepped from His light, you have profaned His name and almost destroyed everything He has striven to build. You have perverted and twisted the path He has laid for Mankind to tread. As your own decrees have stated, there can be no mercy for such a crime, no pity for such a criminal. I renounce your lordship. You walk in the darkness and can not be allowed to live. Your sentence has been long overdue, and now it is time for you to die."

Yeh, Dettol works well, BUT this is really important - use a sealable tub! Unless you like your house smelling like a hospital, or a whinging partner haha

On a similar note, I stripped three models with Dettol, rinsed them down under running water + used a tooth brush to get the remaining paint off, but the black undercoat paint is still there. I've left them back in the Dettol, but is there a way to get this black gunky stuff off.

None of the detail has been obscured, so can I just re-clean them and respray?
