My son and I are playing in an Infantry Aces escalation league. For those of you not familiar with the rules, which are in the back of the Cassino book, they are summarized as follows (points totals have been modified)
General: Lists come from the Cassio book as well as a couple of briefings
Round 1:
- Your force must be no more than 600 points
- Your force must be rated an "infantry company" and NOT "mechanized" or "tank"
- Your force can ONLY include units from Company HQ, Combat, and Weapons Platoons.
- Your company CANNOT field platoons equipped with Tank or Transport teams; any platoons that include transport teams, tank teams, or demolition carriers are sent to the rear before the game and MAY NOT return; if any of your mandatory platoons is equipped entirely with tank teams, you do not have to take it; any portee weapons MUST be dismounted; the vehicle is sent to the rear and MAY NOT return;
Round 2: Rules as above but points value expands to 800 and can include support Platoons but still no transport or tank teams
Round 3: Rules as above but points value expands to 1000 and can include support Platoonn. Transport and tank teams are allowed
Our Round 1 list (90th Panzergrenadier from the Cassino book) looks like:
Company Command + Panzerschrek team
2 x Panzergrenadier platoons (command MG team + 3 squads)
1 Mortar platoon (4 x 12 cm mortars)
Total comes out to 585
For round 2, I'm going to add a Heavy Platoon with 2 MG sections for 135 points
For the remaining 80 points, I have a couple of options:
- Add a sniper for 50 points or;
- Add a GW34 mortar section to the heavy platoon or 60 points or;
- Add an infantry gun platoon with 2 x 7.5cm guns for 60 points or;
- Add a rocket launcher battery with 2 x 15cm NW41 launchers for 75 points.
Any thoughts on where my points are best spent? Either of the last 3 options would give me any means of delivering smoke. Terrain might end up blocking the infantry guns or rockets.

Me i like snipers,The 101st.Airborne has learned to fear mine!His favorite targets are the pesky Engineer teams that keep trying to breach our defenses.I play Germans BTW.But for your other options i would either take the rocket battery or the 7.5.But my is the sniper.

with the number of units in the escalation league, first round, most forces have 2 maneuver platoons and a support platoon, there are good arguments to add a sniper. I like the idea of the rockets as another smoke delivery system as the attackers have been challenged in Round 1

We started our own versions of the Aces campaign.But with us we have totally modified the system.We are using a non esclation format.We are just using are normal Companies 2000 pts. worth.
So far the only one player is using the exp. systems.But what a lucky PARa trooper!!(Commando Kelly makes a great Aces model!) kills so far 2 PAnthers,1 King Tiger!!(It was ambushed by a BAzooka in the rear armor).
For us other two players we are still just using warriors,We are waiting on the Blood,guts and Glory so are Tanks companies may use the aces rules.
we do like the Aces system so far But that helps because we play a movies style format vs. the HYper Historical accouracey version.But you will have that sometime when you only have three players,But soon to have a fourth.He is not sure on what to play,Brit PAras or German paras.I am trying to sway him to the Axis side.I need another Axis player ally pretty bad.Considering i am up against a Soviet Tank company and the 101st Airborne.

I think my son wants the 2 rocket launchers ... though the sniper sure is tempting. BTW, where do you get sniper figures?
