um... my computer?

I guess the title says it all. Looking to do a "Rambo" style IG force with mostly vets as my troops choices. Im just wondering if the 30 pts is even worth it for a 4+ armor save. I know, in theory it sounds great but has anybody actually used them? Thanks as always Dakka.

Really depends on how you're using them.

Something like the Vostoyan First Born, where all your troops are Grenadier veterans, then yes it can have a big impact.

But a single squad stuffed in a chimera? I don't think it's worth it. If you're squad posses a serious threat (full of melta guns for example) the enemy is going to throw the big guns at them, and chances are 4+ will be ignored as well. Finding a nice bit of cover will help more (and it's free!).

It's not worth it, mainly because 4+ Cover is so ubiquitous and costs nothing. Thirty points also goes an extremely long way in the Guard - for every 3 squads you equip with Carapace, you could have fielded an entirely new squad instead.

I have used that option only on my plasma vets. At least I have a 50% chance of saving a gets hot roll. It also helps when the chimera explodes, seeing as how guardsmen do not survive that usually.
