After having a look at my brother's Free Peoples book, I was wondering whether I'd need the respective Fallen Realms book for my Isengard lot. I have all the rules for my units and can get the warband rules from my brother's book. I know which units I can take as part of an Isengard army from the GW website. Therefore, would actually getting the book be worth it, or will I still need it to play at my local GW?

You need the Fallen Realms book to play your army, it contains special rules and such.

I always get an army book, just ordered a Warmachine army book. If I make an army the -first- thing I get is the book.

I've sold so many armies. :(

Definitely, if there's a rules dispute with a particularly awful person then you want to have it there to back you up.

Plus you get some nice missions and stuff and for once it is actually a worthwhile supplement imo.

I have a problem though. I actually have evil armies spanning all three books, but from each book only a few units. For instance, my main infantry are goblin soldiers led by captains and supported by prowlers. I have the stats for all three of these units and know the warband rules. So surely with this info I can use them. I don't really want the other units in the Moria book, and as much as I like scenario games they tend to be acutely specific. The same goes for the other books as well, so it would be a bit of a waste of £45 when I already have my armies' rules. With that said, would it be said that the necessity of these books is so high that they ought still be bought?

Yes you should get the sourcebook for the fallen realms! Because if you meet that TFG or me I would acctualy expect you to have it. If you where playing a army listend in it, And you can take those troops as allies

That's the price you pay though for using a wide range of units, if you must just get the one with the most units you have in it but really all three should be acquired.

Trondheim is on the money, it's almost courtesy to have them at the ready to answer queries for your opponent too, you may know but your opponent doesn't and if they are smart shouldn't trust anyone tbh.

So if I were to play against you for example, and I had my brother's Free Peoples book, the Mines of Moria Rulebook, and the Kazadum sourcebook, and was only using units from the rulebook and the Kazadum sourcebook in the correct manner using rules from the Free Peoples book to create warbands, would you still refuse to play me? I'd have all the rules and points for my units at hand for you to see and such.

I believe the points may have changed in the Free Peoples sourcebook from what they were in the Kazadum sourcebook. But more to the point, Dwarves are covered in the Free Peoples sourcebook so if you had both there would be no issue

But the new sourcebook are important. I play 40k as well and if a new codex came out for my army I would buy it because it has the up to date rules for that army. It is the same case for these new sourcebooks, they are the new up to date rules for armies in lotr. Plus, as Brother-Captain Scotti said, they are worth while buying! Dispite being so short in length they have a lot in.
