I'm not trying to number crunch here. One think in Infinity is: there's no bad models or better. What works in one game my not work for the next. Some may fit your play style than others but that doesn't mean the others can't be used.

Light/Medium Hackers They play mainly a defensive role but still pretty flexible. I feel the Celestial Guard is a great buy for a hacker. But I do love the Zanshi model.

ZHANSHI Hacker Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife (23 | 0.5)

CELESTIAL GUARD Hacker Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife (25 | 0.5)

IMPERIAL AGENT Hacker Combi Rifle / Pistol, Monofilament CCW (43 | 0.5)
MOV:4-4 CC:17 BS:12 PH:11 WIP:14 ARM:2 BTS:-3 W:1
Regular, Not Impetuous, Cube
Martial Arts L3, Hacking Device

Fast Hackers It's hard to say. The Tiger's speed is limited to that jump or coming on from a board edge. The Aragoto has to brave the world around him before getting where he needs to be. The Tiger has a higher WIP and only 2pts more than the Aragoto. It's a lot sexier for both to have an HMG or Spitfire but you can really throw someone off if it's actually a hacker.

TIGER SOLDIER Hacker Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Knife (39 | 0.5)
MOV:4-2 CC:15 BS:13 PH:12 WIP:14 ARM:2 BTS:0 W:1

ARAGOTO Hacker Combi Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Knife (37 | 0.5)
MOV:8-6 CC:14 BS:12 PH:11 WIP:13 ARM:2 BTS:0 W:1
Regular, Impetuous, Cube
CH: Mimetism, Motorcycle, V: Courage, Hacking Device

Heavy Hackers The Daofei is both heavy and camo/infiltrating. It's probably the most flexible of all the hackers. It can get were it needs to be and can dish out punishment. Reasonable WIP and BTS but high cost due to the camo and infiltration skills. The Shang Ji Hacker is great defensive hacker with good WIP but great BTS. The Hac Tao though seems very expensive but a very good defensive hacker with WIP 14 and -6 BTS.

SHÀNG JÍ Hacker Combi Rifle + Light Flamethrower / Pistol, Shock CCW (54 | 0.5)
MOV:4-4 CC:16 BS:13 PH:14 WIP:13 ARM:4 BTS:-6 W:2
Regular, Not Impetuous, Cube

DÀOFĚI Hacker MULTI Rifle / Pistol, Shock CCW (72 | 0.5)
MOV:4-2 CC:16 BS:13 PH:14 WIP:13 ARM:4 BTS:-3 W:2

HAC TAO Hacker MULTI Rifle + Light Shotgun / Pistol, Shock CCW (82 | 0.5)
MOV:4-2 CC:16 BS:14 PH:14 WIP:14 ARM:5 BTS:-6 W:2
Regular, Not Impetuous, Cube
CH: TO Camouflage, Hacking Device

Camo Infiltrating Hackers Daofei again. In comparison is much more expensive. The Gilang and Ninja are very similar to each other. Both have a camo and Infiltrating and high WIP. But to me both of them do better at other things. I'd rather have the Guilang make use of visor and go sniping. The Ninja has many other things it can do. If I had the points I'd do Daofei, if not then the Ninja.

DÀOFĚI Hacker MULTI Rifle / Pistol, Shock CCW (72 | 0.5)

GŬILÁNG Hacker Combi Rifle, Antipersonnel Mines / Pistol, Knife (37 | 0.5)

CH: Camouflage, Infiltration, Multispectral Visor L1, Hacking Device

NINJA Hacker Combi Rifle / Pistol, Shock CCW (48 | 0.5)

Celetial Guard hands down IMO. Does it's job without any excess points baggage. WIP 14 with -3 give it the solid stats to do what it needs to.

I would agree if it's available to you. If you play a JSA list though the Ninja and Aragoto are your only options.

They are great defensive hackers but, sometimes you can't get him where he needs to be. Infiltration or a fast move will help.

Ah but a Ninja hacker is still a fricken Ninja! He can immobilize a TAG first and then slice it up! TAG Sushi anyone?

Given the Ninja (Hacking Device) has PH12 and a Shock CCW, you're probably better off shooting it with the Combi-Rifle. However, Hacking through Combat Camouflage is a very good way to take down an opposing model.

For TAGs, it's much more straightforward to go for the instant kill with the Oniwaban's Monofilament weapon. You just have to cross your fingers the opponent doesn't roll 13+, though, because otherwise they're very likely to pulp the Oniwaban in return.

The JSA just aren't a hack-y sectoral, but that's why you have ninjas - Hackers should be the primary targets of such agents, as they're not exactly renowned for their CC skill, in general.

Overall the Celestial Guard is hands down the most "cost-effective" hacker in Yu Jing. The Hac To is the "elite" hacker but that option is a terrible waste of their AVA. You should really stick with the Celestial Guard unless you have a very good reason to want T/O Camo or Infiltration.

I've felt that Infinity is a game where you need to know the mission before you make the army. Not the other way around. No general would take a knife to a gun fight if they know what they are getting into. So if you know what your mission is, that can tell you what hacker to take. Some armies can do strait up shoot to kill but some can't. That same army would have problems with a rescue the diplomat scenario.

I wouldn't discount the Imperial Agent hacker. He seems attractive as a choice because, with luck, he could imobilize ha HI, or with even more luck a TAG, and then slice them up with his Monofilament weapon!
This would require some rather skilfull manouvering though. I'd like to try it either way.

Or team him up with a Celestial Guard Hacker who does that job and the Agent follows up!

God I love this game! So many things you can do!

That's also a nice idea... I am finding myself casting wistfull glances towards monofilament weapons. A blade that is one molecule thick? Yes please.

Infinity does let me wage cool spec ops conflicts of the future and actually disrupt my enemies with hacking and infowar methods. What's not to love?
