Ok so for a tournament this weekend we are playing with Planetstrike rules. I do know the following, so to make it easier for everyone these are the conditions: All 3 rounds will be Planet fall mission type. There will always be 3 objectives. I will always be the Assaulter (part of the tournament fluff) and it is 1.5k. Any suggestions for a TAC list or even suggestions as to what stratagems I should take? Note I will be playing a Space Marine army.
Also general Planet Strike thread.

I would give priority to terminators, assault marines, and any other assaulty unit that is capable of deepstriking. Your ability to charge off of the deep strike using the Shock Tactics rule is one of your main advantages as the attacker, and you may well need it in order to survive all the artillary the defender can throw at you!

that was the line of thought I was going with, the majority of my list is terminators, a decked out vanguard squad and some sternguard to give the list a little more pop. However I feel like with the way my list is I am only getting 3 units (very strong units, but still only 3). I have a 5man Vanguard, a 9 man Assault terminator a 10 man sternguard, 1 power armor libby and 1 termie libby backed up by two MM land speeders. I feel like this is not a balanced list at all and it will struggle with any horde armies.

I think you'll do ok. Hordes tend to bounce off of large terminator squads, because they can't really hurt the terminators and often take alot more casualties than they inflict. Because alot of hordes are also fearless and have poor armor saves, they end up taking a ton of no retreat wounds and just kind of evaporating. There are only a few close combat units that you really don't want to fight with your terminators, like daemonettes or harlequins or gene stealers. You might consider putting a couple of combi-flamers on your stern guard to help deal with those guys. Ofcourse the land speeders can also carry heavy flamers. I'm not really sure what other options you have to work with.

Well I have about 150ish points to play with to give upgrades or drop in another squad. I could certainly buff up the squads a bit more, with combi-weapons and more members for the termies and vanguards.
My primary concern is what should I have for stratagems.

I don't think the strategems are all that great for either side in planet strike, to be honest. There are a couple that give you some extra ordinance shots at the beginning of the game. I would take one of those.

Planet strike is very interesting to me with the changed force org and the ability to assault after deep striking.
I think the army that benefits the most from this (of the Power Armored variant) are the Blood Angles, although the Servo Skulls with the GK help a ton as well.
(random thought - I would LOVE to play my Daemons in this).
From a defensive perspective - GK with Warp Quake and Coteaz could be brutal, so keep that possibility in mind when you are designing your list.
For a standard SM army, I think the codex shows its age a bit when it comes to Planet Strike. You also cannot fully exploit the changed Force Org at the 1500 point level. That said I think I would got for something like this...
HQ - Librarian w/ Null Zone, Gate ~150-200
-->Does Gate specifically prohibit assaulting? If not then throw terminator armor on him and put him with a unit that can normally DS and they can assault after the DS, correct?
Elite~1000
10x Assault Terminators (you have to here...) w/ 4 LC/6THSS
10x Assault Terminators w/ identical loadout
5x Assault Terminators w/ THSS
Troop ~ 300
10x Tactical w/ Melta, ML in Pod
5x Scouts BP/CCW
5x Scouts BP/CCW
That is right, I would bring in 25 Assault terminators and keep the scouts back in reserve. The goal here is to simply table your opponent by assaulting straight out of your DS. I would rely on the Orbitals to knock open a vehicle or two.
The other units you can use (Assault Marines, Vanguard) are over costed for what they do and Sternguard do not really gain anything from the PS rules. I know there are only 20 troops, but at the end of the day the terminator wall is in it to win it!
I wouldn't bother with any vehicles as the attacker in this one, and you are going to pretty much auto lose to GK anyway with Warp Quake and an uninterrupted turn of 24" shooting.

Troops are not the only scoring units.. For the Planet Fall mission ANY assault unit counts a scoring. For the Vanguard I like that they have high mobility, and after adding a few things they are just as durable as Terminators. I do like the idea of the Termie spam though.. also I left out this before.. the tournament is "Good" vs "Evil" so I would be unlikely to play any other Imperium armies, being a SM myself. All of the "Good/Imperium" forces are dedicated assaulters for all 3 rounds of the tournament.. I do not need a defensive list at all.

Last game of planetstrike I played with my Ultramarines I used all terminators and ironclad dreadnoughts.

How did that work for you?
What stratagems did you take? Automatically Appended Next Post: I was thinking of taking the strats that allow me to shoot extra flamestorm shells and also the one that make my drop pods cause morale checks. for a total of 3 strat points.

I would use the stratagem that allows you to re-roll scatter dice (called "forward observer" or something) that way you can re-roll firestorm strikes and your deep strike rolls if you're not happy with them.
There's another one that gives D3 units all grenades (assault, defensive and melta bombs) I like to give that to my LC termies so they can assault in cover and not lose initiative, or blow up stuff with melta bombs.
Otherwise your list sounds pretty good, specially for that point scale.

I used the re-roll scatter dice stratgem so I could nail my deepstrike landings. It worked really well I was playing against an IG army. I landed and busted open most of the bastions right off the bat.

The one game I played I used the crash and burn strategem because of all the S9 hits, I figured they would wreck some vehicles. Even though I placed them around the field, they all scattered onto the exact same spot. That bastion died though.
It was actually a lot of fun. Then again, I played as Orks.

One strategem that's really funny is the one that makes all units in buildings have to take a save and if they pass they take a wound(or die, can't remember which is which)
I don't remember what its called but its dang funny watching a MEQ army try to fail their armor saves.

That is a great stratagem if you know your enemy has a good armor save. I wiped a squad of stormlord/kripteks using that stratagem = priceless!
