I've been working on my cultist army for some time now, finding uses for various units within the IG codex and making up some fluffy units to follow.

I've already hit my cultist foot troops, beastmen vets, zombie guard and a few other concepts along the way and had been looking for a cheap way to make up a good number of rough riders to field in my force, finding the very rough and ready approach of cultist raids likely to favour the fast mounts )especially in rough terrain)

Here is my first model thus far, any advice on how to better model them or critique on my concept would be appreciated.

Why is he so far forward on the base?


Nice model so far though.

yeah he needs to be repositioned, plus he'll fall over all the time. the model is well converted. Are you going to have some kind of hunting lance or will that be represented some other way?

Poor positioning when taking photo. Need to spray my basecoat and base was still drying so he was pushed to the front. When finished he should be nearer centre. Cheers for the heads up though guys, he seems fairly sturdy in place but the rocks are now arranged around the front/rear of the base to allow sandbag placement in the centre of the base. He'll have alot more leg support now.

Hunting lancewise I hit something of a brick wall, I'm not overly fond of the whole explosive on a stick charging technique as much as I love the rules, and whilst I have been tossing around the concept of a grenade bolas to throw when entering assault I haven't managed to figure out how to piece it together in a convincing manner. I did find the idea of wrapping an explosive bolas around an opponents neck and detonating on the charge alot more visceral than the exploding sticks, however I do need to secure atleast 2 mortar shells per rough rider to complete it.

back in the day the PIAT rocket launcher the british used was a glorified nerf gun, you could do something like that.

I've made up the first 3 of my Rough Riders, trying out a 'nade on a chain version of the explosive lance though I'm not sure if its got enough oomph as it is. Finding the forge world arms really useful though, even if I have had to deal with more than a few miscasts on the sprue.

First time painting up a horse, I think I'm about done on the skin and hair (ignore the rest for now). C&C would be useful since I've tried translating my ork skin painting style onto horse skin with what I feel is a good result.

Mount done, next onto the rider.

Hunting Lance could just be a converted Tankhammer? Maybe a skinny rocket and a fantasy bow?
