Looking for things to improve while still staying with the theme of the army.

Commander Dante
10 Sternguard Veterans ( 2 combi-meltas)
-485

2x Furioso Dreadnoughts(frag-cannon and heavy flamer)
Drop pod
-340

10 Assault marines(2 melta-guns and plasma pistol)
-225

10 Tactical marines(lascannon)
-180

6 Vanguard Veterans(6 power weapons and jump packs)
-260

The tactical marines are the only thing not deep striking.

As far as I know, Sternguard can't take jump packs, so attaching Dante to them would kind of defeat the purpose.

Frag cannons on furioso? Uhh, I can't really think of a worse option, frankly. It replaces the DCCW, so you're down to 2 attacks (3 on the charge).

Tactical marines. Don't take them. Pretend they aren't even a choice in the BA 'dex, as they're rather horrible for us. Plus, if they get thirst, you're wasting a perfectly good furious charging unit on a unit that's not going to be able to move at all, thanks to the lascannon.

You've overgeared your vanguard vets. They don't all need power weapons.

You're lacking in anti-vehicle, which is kind of a Big Dealâ„¢. I'd suggest trading the tac marines for a devastator squad with 4 missile launchers, dropping 4 power weapons from the vanguard vets, the plasma pistol from the assault squad, and the frag cannons from your dreadnoughts. That frees up enough points to get:

PFist for your assault squad sergeant
PFist in your vanguard vet squad
5 scouts with sniper rifles to babysit your home objective
Drop Pod for the Sternguard

Ehn, I'll just post a list with my revisions:

HQ:
Dante
(225 points)

Elites:
Furioso Dreadnought (Blood Fists + HFlamer)
- Drop Pod
(170 points)

Furioso Dreadnought (Blood Fists + HFlamer)
- Drop Pod
(170 points)

9x Sternguard (2x Combi-meltas)
- Sternguard Sergeant (Meltabombs)
- Drop Pod
(300 points)

Fast Attack:
5x Vanguard Vets (1x PW 1x PFist)
- Vanguard Veteran Sergeant (PW/bp)
(195 points)

Troops:
4x Scouts (Sniper Rifles)
- Scout Sergeant (Sniper Rifle)
(75 points)

9x Assault Marines (2x Meltaguns)
- Assault Sergeant (PFist)
(235 points)

Heavy Support:
4x Devastator Marines (4x ML)
- Devastator Sergeant
(130 points)

Totals: 1500/1500 points, 15% HQ, 42.7% Elites, 13% Fast Attack, 20.7% Troops, 8.7% Heavy Support, 43 models, 11 Kill Points

Having the drop pod for the sternguard squad ensures that you can get both of your furiosos to drop turn 1 to start wreaking havoc; although I'd definitely recommend Blood Talons instead of Fists. I'd also highly recommend dropping one of the vet squads (I'd recommend the Sternguard - shlup a drop pod on your devs and have it drop empty so you can still land both dreads) to put more boots on the ground in the form of devastator squads. For the price of your sternguard, you could get 2 more devastator squads plus a drop pod for one of the three, allowing for drop pod assault shenanigans. It leaves you with 5 points free to stick meltabombs on your assault squad sergeant, as well.

I like the Frag Cannon/HF combo. I have used it and it turns out excellent results. A triple template is brutal, two of which cause rending wounds. As for the assault marines Chesh is right, get rid of the plasma pistol, and replace it with a powerfist. Sternguard are unable to take JP's so you will need to give them a Drop Pod and you will want to increase the number of combi-weapons to 5 or so.Tactical Marines are a waste. Assault marines do it better for cheaper, plus they can have a free drop pod or a 15 point rhino.

VV vets are okay, they either wipe a squad with HI or they fail. Also, as a side note Chesh, the PF is actually cheaper to put on the Sgt. by 15 pts.

Dante is great, but you need to put him with a unit that will benefit from his no scatter SR. HG are great, in your original list you would be forced to put him with the assault marines.

What do you think of this:

HQ:
Dante

Honor Gaurd w/ JP's and 4x Plasmaguns

Elite:
Sterngaurd Vets x10 w/ 5x Combi-meltas
Drop Pod

Sanguinary Priest w/ JP

Troop:
Assault Squad x10 w/ PF and 2x Metlaguns

Assault Squad x10 w/ PW and 2x Flamers

Scout Squad x5 w/ 4x Sniper Rifles and ML

Heavy Support:
Devastator Squad w/ 4x ML

This list gives you solid fire base for your DoA troops. Dante goes with the HG and drop down with no scatter and turn a unit to slag. One DP means it comes in first turn and 5 combi-meltas will pop high priorty armour. Plenty of ML for Transport spam and swarms. Plus now you have two FnP and FC bubbles that you did not before.

Just my take on your list.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the frag cannon thing, I think. But then, I run almost all of my dreads with talons, since they kind of outperform the blood fists in every way (S6 or 7 vs rear armor is about as good at heavy armor as S10 is against frontal armor)

Herpaderp on the VV Sergeant thing - I clicked the wrong box in AB and was trying to replace his bolt pistol with a fist. That's still regular price - but trading the PW for the fist is 15 points cheaper.

If you're doing DoA, I highly recommend 1 priest per squad you're dropping in. That way you ensure FNP on each squad that drops in, rather than getting one squad without it that just gets shot to hell on the turn it drops in.

Sorry I didn't catch a lot of that earlier - I blame the 24 hour shifts we're working thanks to an early fire season here.

Edit to add: Actually the PFist vs PW issue on the VV squad turns out to be a wash. It's the same price to replace your sergeant's PW with a fist then get a PW on one of the vets compared to just sticking a PFist on one of the vets. Same cost either way, so it wasn't too big a flub on my part!
