An idea which I regret not coming up with earlier. I'm working on a 40k and M.E. story, in which:
1) Horus never went evil, so only 5 Chaos armies came to be: Undivided - Word Bearers, Khorne - White Crusaders (OC, one of the 2 unknowns), Slaanesh - Angels of Ecstasy (splinter from Emperor's Children), Nurgle - The Eclipse (OC, 2nd of the 2 unknowns), Tzeentch - Brotherhood of Steel (OC, splinter from Thousand Sons). Lorgar is the de facto warmaster of Chaos.
2) All the SM legions, except the above remained loyal, including the Night Lords. But chapters are sometimes founded from the legions, working as 'extended arms' of said legions. The Grey Knights and Deathwatch are also founded, but Ordo Hereticus uses Sisters of Silence instead.
3) Various STCs were found and problems were worked out, so plasma weapons work normally and Warp drive is much faster. Among other things...
4) Some new vehicles and ships are made and some old ones are kept. The 40km War Carrier (OC), the Despoiler and Desolator class cruisers and the Castigator-class titans.
NOW! onto the main point of this thread. This stronger IoM from my story versus the whole of Mass Effect (Mass Effect 1 era, FCW style, System Alliance participates too, as one of lost Imperial colonies) except the Reapers, of course. THEN, 1 to 3 years later, the Covenant shows up and again, IoM fights them.
How do you people think that would go?
Also, I'm willing to answer questions about the story itself

Ok... So not only is it generally accepted that the imperium and 40k in general is so over the top as to be more powerful than almost any other sci-fi, but you're asking if ME or the covenant could stand against FIFTEEN space marine LEGIONS, all of the titan legions, the Primarchs in all their glory, but with even better weapons and equipment...?
Bit of a no-brainer, no?
As much as I love mass effect, it is based upon realism in the sense that it could all happen if eezo was discovered, and 40k is purposefully over the top and better than it. A sliverer of super speed metal, versus basically a miniature grenade launcher, but more accurate and more devastating...
So, Imperium. Imperium every time.

I just have to ask. If you know how it is going to end, if you in fact have set it up in such a way there can be no dought what so ever in the outcome. Why ask?

Personally, I have no problem with well-written fanfiction, crossover or no. It's a good sign of a healthy and creative mind to start writing, no matter the material.
My problem is that, if you're going to do a crossover, keep the Imperium as it currently is instead of replacing it with what is (basically) a Mary-Suefied version of it.

It's only "generally accepted" by 40K fanboys though. And who cares what they have to say? There's a slew of Sci-Fi that would wipe the floor with 40K. I mean for God's sake, it literally takes Imperium ships upwards of a year to travel from one end of the Galaxy to the other. lol In a lot of Sci-Fi, it only takes like a week for ships to do that. lol

In most cases this is the only advantage other settings have. If you have miniscule ships with minimal damage output (comparitively) it doesn't matter if it takes years for that massive Imperium ship to get to your homeworld. Because it will get there, there is nothing you can do to stop it, and when it gets there it will ruin your day.
And then you have Gurren Lagen.

The only time I feel that the other places would win is on the battlefield at best. The imperial navy has some ships that are generally big enough to fit star destroyers in its hanger.

Just wanted to hear others' opinion on the story concept. It seems no one here can recognize a good story when they see one.

Or maybe they just do not think it is a good concept. Mostly as the Warhammer vs. everyone has been done to death of late. It gets even wonkier when you change the main setting to such a degree its a vastly different beast. I have no issue with changeing settings man, but its an odd concept to me. There is never a question. the IoM would take all comers with ease under the scenario you listed. It would not be a story so much as a very minor footnote. Those settings simply do not have the power or even a fraction of the numbers to take the current ioM, much less the super one you have used as the base.
And people tend to be very Mary-sue shy. Good reason for that as it more or less rules fan-fic, making finding good fanfic like stumbling across a working STC. And as soon as you laid out the super, duper IoM people kinda toned it out if I had to guess.
