In the first battle of the campaign my Speed Freaks faced off against David's Crimson Fists. It was a spearhead deployment with 4 terrain objectives as the primary, killing HS and elites as the secondary and holding the 12" center as tertiary. Another few things about this campaign were the HQs rolling for veteran skills and that both sides got orbital bombardments.

As I'm just starting orks and fielding them for the first time at the store I was somewhat limited in my tactics to deal with SM in general save what I know playing and losing with my own SM army. Three tournies and I haven't gotten better than bottom third playing with Salamanders

So I go with what I like and I like trukks and battle wagons. My list is roughly:

Big Mek 'Gubz Snatcha' - SAG, Boss Pole, and cybork
my HQ hero that will be in every game and his loadout can change.

Big Mek with KFF, BP, burna and cybork

5 lootas
9 burnas

4 units of 12 boyz, nob with a PK, and BP. They all have a trukk with a RPJ, and reinforced ram
20 boyz with shootas and an Ard Nob with PK and BP

and two battle wagons with deff rollas, big shootas, RPJ, and armor plates

David had Pedro as his campaign hero and I believe the following

Tac squad with a flamer, missile launcher, and power weapon
Stern Guard with combi flamers, 2 combi meltas, flamer, melta and a power weapon (I think that was everything, it was like 330 points)
Both had rhinos for rides
7 strong unit of scouts with sniper rifles and Tellion (or at least the CF equivalent)
7 strong cc scouts

10 assault marines with 2 flamers and a PF

Dreadnaught with heavy flamer and assault cannon in a drop pod

Predator with AC and lascannon sponsons

Now as was mentioned the heros get skills to roll for before the mission details were given. I choose Gunnery to try for split fire or tank hunters. Turned out that the mission gave two orbitals to both sides and heros that picked Gunnery only had them scatter 1 die instead of two. Nice!

So it turns out that David also picked Gunnery and thus we rolled. Gubz the Big Mek got +1 BS while Pedro got Night Sight/Acute senses

Onto the game: David as the SM player was the attacker and thus got first dibs on deployment. Three objectives are placed in ruins roughly along the Crimson Fists long edge and one in the middle ruin. As orks I placed mine so that I would be charging at him and maybe take the two on the way and the middle. In deploying he put a combat squad in the rhino with Pedro and the other half with a ML in a ruin with an objective. A predator sits near the ML combat squad. The sternguard with rhino ride parallel to Pedro. The Dread/DP is in reserve as is the Assault squad. The snipers will infiltrate and the cc scouts will outflank.

Here you can see the two rhinos about middle of the table and in the right of the pic you can see the predator with the ML squad.

Close up of the rhinos

The rest of his forces

In my deployment I put it all down. Gubz with the lootas in a ruin and a happy clomp of trukks and BWs with a KFF save.

To the left is the ruin with Gubz with SAG and lootas. The front row has three trukks with boyz, the back row is a BW with 20 shootas, the BW with KFF Big Mek and 9 burnas. The white rolls are the beginnings of the deffrollas The last vehicle there is the fourth trukk.

Close up of the hero and lootas

The snipers infiltrate into a ruin near the rhinos to hold an objective. They have a good view of the side AVs and my lootas with Gubz.

Turn One:

And the Dread with AC comes down. He pulls the pedro rhino closer and the sternguard make for the middle objective.

In shooting, he gets two obirtals from the mission and Pedro gives another. All scattering only one die away and as glances will still get str 8 on my AV 10 trukks I'm sweating right now. His first goes on the front row of trukks not in front of the BWs. They get a weapon blown off and a wreck on the middle trukk. The boyz pile out a few of their number short and get pinned. The 2nd orbital goes on the trukk in front of the shoota BW and scatters back to get both BWs and the trukk. Remember the glance still counts as str 8 so they pen my side AV. The KFF works again but the trukk wrecks. Luckily it kareens into the first floor of the ruin closer to the middle objective 8) The last orbital gets saved by the KFF and David can't get that last trukk in the front dead. Even with the ML and pred it takes the HF on the Dread to immobolize it.

He's boxed me in the corner and with the sniper scouts tries to keep up the momentum by hitting the lootas. Tellion calls Gubz out and gets a wound on him. The scouts sorta miss but do get a loota to go down. Tne ML frags some pinned boyz to make the mob even smaller.

My turn, I pile the boyz out of the immobolized trukk to have a go at the dread. The middle boyz are pinned and the last group head towards the middle objective getting 2-3 into the ruins. I push the BW though the gap left by the kareening trukk to get near the middle. The KFF BW also manages to park on top of the trukk with the pinned boyz.
"They best get ta moving!"

In shooting the lootas go at the scouts and kill 0 while the SAG scatters off them. Yay for big shootas as they pick one off.

I get the boyz into assault with the dread:

The boyz lost two but the nob and dread are still swinging.

Turn Two
Neither the scouts or assault marines make it. He pulls the sternguard rhino alongside the middle objective to roast the orks while Pedro stays near the scouts.

In shooting the scouts try to kill more lootas but nothing hits. The predator and ML squad hit but the KFF saves the BWs. Pedro and the DP storm bolters go at the pinned orks taking them down to the Nob and three boyz. They pass their leadership with a boss pole death. The sternguard do roast a number of orks but they pass without trouble.

In assault the dread only kills by exploding and takes a few boyz with it. That brings the mob down to half strength and consolidates towards the scouts on an objective.

My turn I pull the BWs forward with the Burna KFF BW towards Pedro and the Shoota BW towards the sternguard. The last trukk gets around the pile of wrecks and is behind the KFF BW. The two boyz and Nob walk then run towards the middle objective.

In shooting the lootas and SAG manage to immobolize the predator (aiming right at my forces ) while the shootas open up on the scouts and kill 5. This brings them out of assault range.

In the middle with the sternguard I decide to assault the rhino to force them out.

It's super effective. No really, they got pinned and everything.

Turn 3
His scouts outflank on his right. This is near an empty objective by the snipers. As seen here.

David moves his rhino with Pedro to block off the middle. In shooting the pred knocks the big shooter off the KFF BW.

My turn
I decide to Deff roll the rhino and sternguard with my Shootas BW and it's effective. They fail leadership and fall back towards their table edge. Seeing that, the Big Mek BW tries Pedro's rhino only to stun it. The last trukk goes 18" to get at the objective before the outflanking cc scouts do.

In shooting the lootas and SAG try to kill the sternguard squad and find again (third time) only one shot each. Nothing happens except the SAG rolls 11 and a bolter sternguard dissappears.

In assault the boyz kill the sniper and take that objective.

Roughly how things stand.

Turn 4
The Assault marines come in

Another view as the Crimson Fists starts piling them on the table to be placed.

He puts them near the last trukk to do some damage. The Sternguard fall back again. Scouts move towards the ruin objective. Pedro and the combat squad gets out to moves towards the middle objective and rear of the Shoota BW.
Pedro kills the two boyz in the small mob to make the nob go running. "Where's me boyz?!" he cried.

The Sternguard fire 4 melta shots at the Shoota BW with two in 1/2 range: Nothing big happens and it still stands. The Assault marines ruin the mob that was sitting on the objective formerly held by scouts. The Nob survives to run right along the KFF BW. Perfect, now the BW is pinned and can't pivot or it hits the rhino or the Nob :-\

The ML squad I believe was the one that popped the last truck and the explosion killed a number of boyz inside. I pass the leadership with a dead boy though.

Lastly, Pedro takes a multi assualt at the Shoota BW and BOOM! The explosion kills 7 boyz leaving 13 with PK Nob. Oh and the middle objective gets locked with 5 of my boyz dead. This leaves a Nob and a boy left so Pedro comes running back to get stuck in leaving my shootas in a crater.

My Turn

The Nob still blocks my KFF BW while the first Nob to run finally gets off the board. I decide to try Deff rolling the KFF BW and it does wreck the rhino to get to the other side. I moved 12" thinking I could flame the Assulat squad but that was a lapse in rule memory. Oh well, at least I can block them from the middle objective. I move the shootas out of the crater and decide to not shoot the Sternguard but assault Pedro's squad.

Right now he has one objective with the combat squad while the contests another and his cc scouts could get control a second. So I move the boyz that sat in the trukk crater to get at his scouts, a whooping 1". They manage to run another 2 but it was slow going.

The shooting didn't prove better as I turned the lootas at the ML squad and found only one loota in range. By the way the scouts were blocked by some boxes so I couldn't see and I thought the assault squad wasn't going to take any wounds. But I rolled one shot and missed. The SAG scattered off and did nothing.

Assaulting Pedro with the Shootas was a good idea as I killed the squad, lost 3 shoota boyz and 1 cc boy. Pedro lost by 1 and stays in.

Fun times eh Pedro? Two power fists against one is good odds

Turn 5
And then the Sternguard roll 12" to run off the board. Ouch. I did however misjudge the jump on the Assault marines as they hopped over the BW and wrecked rhino. Though two did land in and die from DTTs. The scouts got closer to the empty object and proceeded to shoot up some boyz.

His Pred did nothing and the ML I believe fragged some more boyz leaving a Nob and two boyz. They stay in though with a head bashing re-roll.

The Assault marines join to help Pedro and I put two boyz and the Nobz on Pedro while the others bash the new arrivels. 2-3 boyz die to Assault marines while losing 1-2 themselves. Pedro whiffs and so do the Nobs.
Stuck in again

My Turn
Ok coming down to it. If this ends I lose the Primary and likely the game so I decide to assault the cc scouts and hope to consolidate to the objective. My thinking was if the game goes on and I'm on the objective he'll win the assault and thus the objective for the win.

I try to ram the pred with the KFF BW but it comes up short. The lootas again hit nothing and so I assault the CC scouts with a Nob and his boy. I succeed in killing some and they deal a PW and two normal wounds. Bye Bye boy, have a wound Nob; you're stuck in.

In the other assault, the Assault marines swap wounds with the boyz and Pedro kills the lone Nob but gets two klaws to the face. He fails one to die to ID. The marines run and I consolidate 1". in the middle but not the objective there.

Game ends...
: Figures. I tell David good game thinking I've lost as he has an obective whle I don't. 20pts GG. I got tertiary for the middle of the table and maybe secondary for killing heavy and elites. I do and it's worth 21 pts...oh so I won?

Yeah, playing normal objective based games I thought no objective pieces meant defeat. The orks didn't think so and I won

Crazy, so we figured the Most Kills unit was Pedro for Orbital striking a trukk, shooting a mob to a Nob to run off, wrecking the BW and killing the lone Nob in the scramble for the middle objective. He rolls on the Gunnery table again for Tank Hunters.

David declares the Shoota boyz as my MVP for nearly killing off the sniper scouts, tank shocking the Sternguard (who later ran off the board) and killing Pedro and running off the Assault marines. I didn't know what to do so I rolled a d3 and then a d6 to get Fieldcraft/Fleet. Oh well, at least they also get the bonus of Ld 10 for the next battle.

Well you can't tell that 24 boyz are painted, they just got shoot off the board rather quickly. The boyz that made it to the middle objective and assaulted by Pedro were painted 3 colors. Also, since this is a Campaign I am painting the units that make Veteran so right now I have 19 shootas in front of me skinned and faced (eyes/teef). Onward!

"Wot's dis? More Marines?! Tell dem Nobz to find more boyz, we's gettin' stuck in again!"

Yes, it seems that a xenos player couldn't make it so my list gets a second battle for this campaign. Against Space Wolves no less.

My list is the same:
Big Mek 'Gubz Snatcha' - SAG, Boss Pole, and cybork
my HQ hero that will be in every game and his loadout can change.

Big Mek with KFF, BP, burna and cybork

5 lootas
9 burnas

4 units of 12 boyz, nob with a PK, and BP. They all have a trukk with a RPJ, and reinforced ram
20 boyz with shootas and an Ard Nob with PK and BP

and two battle wagons with deff rollas, big shootas, RPJ, and armor plates

and Kevin has:
Wolf Lord on cavalry with LC, wolftooth, two wolves and I believe something of the Bear?
5 TWC assorted with TH, 2 SS, 2 MBs and a plain one I think.

10 man Grey Hunter with melta gun/wolf standard in Drop Pod (mission required)
Rune Priest #1 with living lightning and JotWW

10 man Grey Hunter with melta gun/wolf standard in rhino
Rune Priest #2 with living lightning and Murderous Hurricane

and two 5 man Long Fangs with 4 MLs each.

So onto rolling for Hero skills and Gubz gets +1 BS again while the Wolf Lord gets Fearless I believe.

We choose quarters and the objectives are all around the 12" circle that is the Tertiary Objective. He puts both squads of Long Fangs into a ruin with an objective, a rhino with RP and grey Hunters behind it and the TWC with Wolf Lord close to the center.

Bird's eye view

I deployed everything with Gubz and Looats in a ruin with an objective and the BW/trukks arrayed for KFF happy fun range time.

Another view, ignore the Drop pod in the background as it'll get placed in a moment.

I don't steal the intiative and it's time to throw some dice.

Thoughts
i've played Kevin before and those TWC are going to be a pain. With two orbitals able to mess my trukks up and frag templates from the Long Fangs I'm thinking of throwing my trukks in two directions to make him push the TWC one way or the other.

Turn 1

The Drop Pod with a Rune Priest and Grey Hunters comes in on my right flank and hits without scattering off the table.

The rhino and TWC move closer and then shooting starts in earnest. The first orbital kabooms! a trukk in terrain and kills three boyz.. They'll pass pinning and leadership with a reroll. The other gets KFF saved. Hoping to block me in the Long Fangs open up on Beige trukk and immobolize it and take the big shoota off. The Rune Priests cast Living Lightning and the KFF saves again.

My turn

I move the Kaboom! boyz further into the ruin with an objective and roll up the trukks and BWs. I also disembark the immobolized boyz and add another mob to assault the DP Grey Hunters.

Another view

Lots squishy tings der Boss.

'Ere we go, 'ere we go!"

For my shooting the lootas manage a wound on the Wolf Lord and while they try the Boyz pistols get saved by 3+ armor.

And then they're off!
I kill 7 and they get 6 to get stuck in. He was rerolling ones and that turned into a pain as more wounds were given back to da boyz.

Thoughts
Ok I'm off to a good start. I should finish the Rune Priest and what's left in his assault phase and get the boyz back in a trukk to bugger off before the TWC show. The KFF has also been working overtime to save more trukks than the last game.

Turn 2

Kevin moves the TWC up again and the rhino peeks out from the ruin to get more targets in view

Shooting is very sad as I either save or the Pansie trukk gets shaken and can still move. Also the rhino RP perils on a Living Lightning on a 12...

And in assault I have just the Rune Priest left for his next turn.

My turn 2

One of my two orbital strikes come in and kills a wolf in the TWC squad.

I move the Pansie trukk far up field to try and run along his long table edge to the Long Fangs and behind the TWC. I also Deff Rolla the TWC and he decides to not DoG with the TH. So the shootas in a BW decide to try their hand at shooting and kills a wolf and puts a wound on a plain rider with melta bombs. The Burnas take offense and show 'em how it's done with 20 wounds and putting 3 on different models including the wolf lord.

That's alot of allocation but it's starting to show.

Another view showing it was the shootas that rolled so the KFF could still provide cover.

The assault with the DP Rune Priest ends in my favor so I consolidate the primed squad between the DP and terrain with an objective marker on it. The other squad gets back to 2" of the trukk to embark next turn.

Thoughts
I'm worried what the TWC will do as they're near two battle wagons, and two squads of boyz. The Shootas BW that rolled them only moved 6" too...still I think it'll take him two turns to really wreck face so on to

Turn 3
The TWc shuffles toward the ruin my primed squad are trying for and the rhino shuffles back to the ruin away from the Shootas BW.Wait, can rhinos shuffle?

The Long Fangs manage to take the gun and immobolize the KFF BW and the rhino Rune Priest (really the only RP still alive) lights up the 4 boyz in the ruin with my Lootas and Gubz.

The TWC assault the primed boyz and

now you see them

and now you don't. Was there any doubt? They consolidate on top of the terrain.

My Turn 3

My other orbital stirke comes in and kills two of the LFs and they run 6"
In movement the Shoota Deff rollas the rhino and immobolizes it. The Pansie trukk pulls up toward the LF ruins along his table edge.
I also get the boyz towards the corner ruin that has the last objective.

In shooting the Big Mek fixes his BW while the Burnas make 18 hits on the TWC.; the Wolf Lord burns to ash.

Thoughts

Ok that was pretty good. The TWC is shuffling about getting nowhere fast and I'm skirting to get that other troop and Rune Priest. Now I' have to try and decide where to pile the boyz...

Turn 4

The Long Fangs run another 4" as my BW is right there. The RP and Grey Hunters get out of the rhino as seen here.

I really like how most of his army is painted and it makes me want to do more with mine.

In shooting the standing Long Fangs deliver 4 kraks to the Pansie trukk and it kareens backwards and six die in the explosion!

Aw boss, I hopes they can'ts sees us!

The Rune Priest tries to lightning the BW but only shakes it with a peril. The TWC wreck up the KFF BW as it was auto hit by a thunder hammer...two burnas die in the flames.

My turn 4

I move the boyz and trukk into the terrain proper to claim it and decided to hop the shootas out of the BW to assault the Rune Priest. I could have tried a ram but I didn't think I would be able to pop the tank. I also take the boyz from the pansie trukk around the back of the hill to not get blasted by frag.

The lootas kill a TWC for a test which they pass. The Burnas though were too clustered to get more than 11 hits on the TWC and I decided not to assault them. I thought what's the point?

They're just going to die...

I decide to multiassault the LFs and the RP squad. He strikes first and kills 15 boyz. I kill 6 and get swept. They Rune Priest consolidates 5" to get closer to the middle.

Thoughts

Aw crackers. I knew some would die to the assault but I really thought my shootas would kill more than one marine and I could have more than half my squad survive. But no, the counter assault math hammered out right to give 15 dead boyz. I really should have tried to pop the rhino or just multi assault the two long fangs in the ruins and then make him walk all the way around the BW and rhino. Even if he melta'd the BW he wouldn't have been able to assault my shootas. Also, why didn't I asssault with the Burnas if only to deny the extra attack to the TWC?! I'm fading fast in my decisions now.

Turn 5

The Long Fangs keep running 9" and are close to my Pansie Boyz that are making their way to Hail Mary the ruin with an objective and a functioning Long Fang squad in it.
The Rune Priest squad can't get up into the objective terrain but manage a run into it.

Oh and the KFF Big Mek is dead from an assault from TWC. They took one with them and I forgot about the unused burnas as PWs I am not doing well mentally.

My Turn 5

The Pansie Boys try to get to the LF ruin

and the Waagh!! doesn't reach the LFs in there.

The Lootas kill a Grey Hunter and lillt else happens.

Thoughts
I really should have tried to assault the fleeing LFs and hope to get stuck in if the game continues. Really regretting not assaulting with the KFF Big Mek too.

The game goes on and so

Turn 6
Here's an overview of the board and the last pic I took.

Kevin moves the TWC towards the boyz in the open and in shooting the RP uses living lightning to wreck the BW. Then assault with the TWC and the Boyz results in a nob and 2 boyz running away.

My Turn 6
Well, I can still try and pull the win with a trukk in the corner. It goes 19" by the Drop Pod and misses the melta gun for a tank shokk. Sigh, they pass morale and since the campaign rules say I can only contest if I occupy 50%of the terrain the trukk can't do it.

Game ends! So to tally up, I have an objective in the right corner and he has the Rune Priest and Grey Hunters in a hill objective. Tie 10pts each.

Secondary is killing elites and heavies and with two dead BWs, and burneas it's his 3 to my 1 Long Fang kill (fleeing) He wins secondary for 15 pts

Tertiary is having troops or heavies in the 12" circle. That rey Hunter squad is spread out and some are in for that one as well. Kevin gets the tertiary and another 6 pts.

Total Space Wolves win 31-10

Final Thoughts
Wow what a great game. I feel stupid for assaulting the Rune Priest with the Shootas as I did and stupid for not assaulting the TWC as I did. Well, hopefully I've learned my lesson about unfired burnas doing more harm in assault and that I should have stuck the shootas into the non counter assaulting/ extra ccw Long Fangs. Or at least I think one attack from what I can remember he rolled for them. Also, doing this I realize that the RP was dead from two perils and that may have changed whether the trukk shokk would have had a different result. Of well, he played to my mistakes and I learned more about my Orks.

For the rewards, the Most Kills goes to the TWC for 5 dead units and they get Furious Charge on the melee table. Plus Leadership 10 so I have some explaining to do when they start steam rolling futute games.

The MVP I said was his Grey Hunters from the rhino that cleaned up the 20 shootas with one round of combagt (15 dead) and took an objective and the middle 12" circle to win the game and a beachhead on the campaign trail.

Still with this victory the Imperium is getting a beachhead onto Tallon IV to keep the campaign on track.
