Hey guru's:
I'm wrapping up a green tide paint scheme (on the down-hill-side of the last 60 boyz) and I need to segregate my boyz in to mobz of 30 by how I base them.
My question is this:
Have mobz of 30 been the normal maximum troop size for Space Orks (2nd through 5th edition) or has it changed? Should I wait until the June release to base the boyz?
Thanks
DrG
PS: I figured a question about old rules are appropriate for this forum, which is why I posted here.

The green tide does not appear to have much in success in 5th. Wall of Kans, truck boys, battle wagons, and looters seems to do much better from my limited understanding.
Of course, as you point out, 6th might change all that,

kmdl, he's not asking about effectiveness, He's curious about max number of boyz in a standard codex mob through the various editions.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Thank you gentleman, and yes. That is my question.
Previous max troop sizes. Presently it's 30. This is so I might speculate on whether or not I want to base the boyz now or later.

I have. It was a massive horde of Orks vs a massive collection of Infantry Platoons. Lots of dice rolling in that game.

Unfortunately no, otherwise I would've answered already.

It was 30 in the previous codex. Don't know about earlier.
(Don't know why I have that codex either, as I played exactly two games of 4th using SM and then didn't play 40K again for a couple of years.)

It was 30 boyz in the 3rd edition codex.
In the 3rd edition green tide it was the goal to have 180 boyz on the table.
Even if something drastically changes in 6th, you still may want the flexibility of going from 30/20/12 boyz simply because it is common to go between those sizes for gameplay.
(unless you plan to have 180 boyz and just pear down the units)

That's the plan. I have 180! ... well, almost. I'm on the last 60. I'll be posting a speed painting article about how to get moderate to high quality with airbrushing, painting on the sprue and dipping.
Thanks gentlemen.
