So, a week or two ago it came into my head to start a Squat army, a race I love, and while I was looking for a codex I could proxy them with I came across an idea regarding the Grey Knights, another of my favorite armies. While reading about Inquistors and thei warbands, I realized that almost any army you can conceive of, with or without a codex, could be represented ALONSIDE Greay Knights as an Inquisitor Warband. Squats, Ad-Mech, Rough Traders, anything! So, I ask Dakka, what do you think?

Well, you need to take Coteaz in order to be able to take more than one squad of henchmen.

But you could proxy Coteaz as a Squat over-lord.

Then you could proxy up Squats as henchmen, and even take things like Dreadnoughts as Squat machines. Some kinda four legged walker with quad auto-cannons and a driver sitting in the middle would be awesome!

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

An inquisitorial henchman army of squats, with things like dreadnights and storm ravens done up as awesome squat war machines... that could be one of the most awesome ideas I've ever heard of.

They used to make squat terminators and the like too I believe all the way back in rogue trader/2nd edition. That'd make for an awesome unit of paladins, especially since squat technology was supposedly centuries ahead of the IoM. It would make the crazy rules they have actually make sense.

The other thing I usually hear squats counted as are IG, which I am much more familiar with (hence the avatar) It's also a fluffy answer, as several squat worlds fielded IG regiments back in the rogue trader days. There are even a ton of pictures of them with lasguns and flak armor fighting alongside regular guardsmen. It wouldn't be a stretch to claim that a particularly badass group of squats have managed to keep their regiment going since the tyranids wrecked their homeworlds, determined to avenge their fallen race.

Then for IG, you have the fact that IG can field more vehicles than almost any other army, which if I remember correctly, was something squats were known for as well. I've seen several squat mech armies that look awesome, especially the ones with modified Leman Russes.

The third option is to pick a codex that has a cool bike army option available, as they had a lot of biker units back in the old days. Then, you could buy up a ton of the old squat units, and field a proper biker army!

However you take it man, let us know when you start it up, as it's bound to be awesome!

Scout Marines have a good profile for Squats. T4, 4+ armor, boltguns, shotguns, or BP/CCW. I had the idea for a counts-as Squats army using regular Squats as Scout Marines, and Hearthguard or whatever they're called as Sternguard with Pedro. For drop pods I'd use Termite drills, like the ones from Ramshackle. It never panned out, but I like the idea.

I run my squats as Space Wolves. SW can fit in all of the old style squat units like bikes, heavy weapon teams, and termies. Hearthguard basically are wolf guard, living ancestors are rune priests, wolf lord= war lord, you get the idea. A lot of the themes in the old squad story line are similar to SW too.
