It is likely that Harad is going to be my first force (seeing as my local toy store still has boxes of 24 haradrim warrors) and i was wanting some advice on what is and what isn't worth taking.

I only have access to the old harad book at the minite so i can assume some of the point costs and options are changed (along with more troops likely to be in the new sourcebook)

Here are the choices i want advice on

Serpent Guard + Serpent riders - Are they worth it over the regular haradrim?

War Mumak -

Corsair arbalesters -

Mahud warriors and riders -

half trolls -

Plus is there anything new in the sourcebook that i'm missing and if so is it possible to fill me in? It is likely the bulk is going to be made up of regular haradrim warriors but i'm asking about the above guys for various support and different types to use, so i'm not just running loads of the same thing.

Staying on target.....

I have previously brushed with Harad and from that I would say the following are worth it:

A Mumak (only half the time though)
Suladan (cos he's a beast)
Serpent guard in small numbers
Half trolls in small numbers
Tonnes of Harad Bowmen

If you mahud warriors it really has to be a mahud army imo. I guess a warband wouldn't hurt but they are expensive buggers.
The xbows are not worth it in a Harad army where half your army can have bows that re-roll those misses which are 1's

Just my thoughts, I imagine there are more veteran Harad players about

Has suladin got a lot better then how he was in the harad book then? As he didn't really seem worth taking then.

And are hasharim worth taking? even though i can imagine they're independant heroes.

AFAIK he's a lot of the same but for the points he seems worth it with M/W/F 3 across the board (I think, don't have the book but it's what I recall), a high fight and give him a horse to lead your serpent riders/haradrim raiders in. Also as Haradrim there isn't another choice really.

Last time I checked they were an ok choice but it has been a year or two since I have had anything to do with them.

If your not happy with Suladan you could always introduce a Ringwraith?

Was thinking of a ringwraith. If the betrayer is a useful for harad in SBG as he is in WotR then he's an obvious choice, but i hear they're very fragile and expensive.

I just love the aesthetic of the Haradrim and the concept of the whole desert raiders vibe. Not as keen on the serpent guard/riders models though.

hopefully someone with a lot more experience with harad comes and gives me some real pointers when it comes to them.

I hope that's me. I will now proceed with a brief review of the options available to you.

Exactly right. A mumak is immune to hordes, with it'sgood fight value and plenty of attacks, helped further by the vast selection of wargear options.

Against an elite force on the other hand, it will fail. I think perhaps the best armies to beat it are the fellowship and the white council. High fight values and plenty of might are cruical. Effective use of them even more so. Magic can also make a difference.

Suladan is not my favourite but he has a solid fighting profile for just 90. He is as good as any other hero you could choose.
Hasharii are a more vanilla version of Suladan but with nice special rules which can be very useful in smaller games.
The fallen realms book has 2 great ringwraiths. The betrayer is good in a bow heavy list with his poisin bonus for nearby troops. The knight of Umbar is my favourite, borrowing his opponent's characteristics is not to be underestimated.

Arbalesters are great in an all corsair force but it's probably better to go with plenty of poisinous archers.

I agree with Brother-Captain Scotti about half trolls and serpent guard.

I hope this helps.

I also totally forgot about the harads 50% bow limit instead of the usual 33% >.<

I think a mumak will be a later addition to the force. I do want to go pure harad though and paint em up all desert raider like with a very arabian look to them with lots of sandy colors. If i actually liked the look of the suladin model i guess he would be a must have But i really don't like the look of him or serpent guard. So will stick to harad warriors and raiders maybe with a hasharii or any other lil lovely looking bits i find in the new book.

What are these abrakhan? saw them in another guys harad list.

hmm. well it shall be a while before i can pick up a copy of the sourcebook sadly so i shall have to make do. But when i can afford it all the 24 man harad boxes in my local toy shop are mine!

Abrakahn are the elite guard of the Golden King, while I'm sure they look good in a themed army, I think they're OK in a normal list. Being that they don't have the issue of Two handed weapon negative effect, they can act as mini-half trolls.

The biggest indicator someone is a loser is them complaining about 3d printers or piracy.

So they're just 2HW Harad doods? I'm not really a fan of 2HW so i might give them a miss then. and just stick to lots of spears and bows and horsemen with spears and bows >.>

sounds kinda dull lol.

They'll still make mince meat out of most units.

I can understand and like 2HW on higher FT guys, but if what you're saying is they don't get the -1Ft then maybe they might be worth looking into.

Yes, it means that they make good assault troops and bodyguards for 'fragile' Haradrim leaders.

and on an unrelated note does anyone know what Arnor is like in the new sourcebooks?

Like what heroes they get, any unique bits to them and things like that. It's likely it would be what i'd want to play if i build a good army. Arnor has always interested me.

Staying on target.....

Don't know how I missed this as an Arnor player

They are very limited to be honest, here's what they list:

Witch King
Tainted
Burdhur
Gulahvar
Barrow-Wight
Shade
Orc Captain
Orc Shaman

Orc Warriors
Orc Trackers
Warg Riders
Spectres
Cave Trolls

Not an awful lot but their are some pretty nasty combo's, like I'm working on a force that is half orc, half spirit. So I can pin the enemy and set to work when I want hopefully. But there are not obvious strengths, that is for sure.

You know i said Arnor, not Angmar >.>

But it is sad to know there is no Carn Dum in Angmar for SBG. Would have thought they'd have been included. Along with The Dwimmerlaik, he was always my fav ringwraith.

Haha misread that a bit! Or maybe it was because they were coupled before? That I also know though

Arevdui
Malbeth
Arathorn
Aragorn/Strider
Halbarad
Rangers of the North
Dunedain
Elladan and Elrohir (Probably mispelt sorry)

Rangers
Warriors Of Arnor

That's about it but I may well have missed a couple of heroes.

And the Dwimmerlaik is in Angmar, that's the one character I couldn't think of!

Yeah Angmar went to war against Arnor and destroyed it, but then lost at the battle of Fornost.

Tis a shame about no Carn Dum though (unless you forgot them too ) If i was ever going to do an angmar force it would be lots of Carn Dum barbarians. Do they not have werewolves either? like in WotR?

Abrakhan is the trading port that the Golden King rules. The Abrakhan Guard are well his bodyguard. Their fat guys with giant scimitars. An interesting look when compared to the gaunt Haradrim with their spindly little spears and bows.

And sadly I've only played twice with my Harad so I've no idea what's good and not, other then the fact in a Haradrim pure army like you and I want. Abuse that 1/2 Bow's limit. I'm also fond of the raiders. The mumak in the one game i've used it seemed, way to easy to get away from. And granted it ran over some of my spearmen.

This is currently what i'm playing with.

Evil Warriors.

Haradrim warriors with spears abrakhan. 85pts

Haradrim warriors with spears abrakhan. 85pts

Haradrim warriors with bows abrakhan. 85pts

Task Master. 60pts
