Hey all,

I am quite new to 40k, and I am having trouble defeating any kind of long range army. Especially tau, seeing as I play a predominantly close range army, what should I do to get to the enemies? Drop pods , tanks, etc.? Basically how every game goes is: drop pod wolves, and rush with tanks, get a few kills, and then be annihilated by tanks and other long range weapons. Maybe I need more heavy support? At least that's what I am trying to do anyways.

Please help, atribix

Tau don't like Drop pods. If your Drop pods aren't working, you don't have enough of them. Tank rushes, not always the best idea vs Tau. Bikes and Jump infantry also can work great against Tau.

Go ahead and drop behind a full squad of fire warriors, don't be scaredm they will kill *mathhammer* 2.22 (if your in rapid fire range) MEQ's. And usually those squads have backup, or markerlights. say you get hit by one markerlight, used to increase the BS of a rapid firing squad, and you lose 3 guys on average. If you have seven guys charging at the Fw's you will kill about half (4.8 ish) in the first turn, and hopefully the rest in the next so its a win for you. I'd bring a PF or two to punch a hammerhead from behind and blow it up, as well as providing some very useful stopping power, you can instantly kill Their 4 wound HQ with one hit from that. Rhinos aren't your friend, they will put a whole through it and shoot whoever was inside to death, so deepstrike and outflank as much as possible, wolf scouts are super sexy here, come from THEIR table edge and wreak havoc with melta bombs. Give that squad a power weapon and its not looking good for the tau. *Try not to get shot though* I play Wolves and Tau, never against each other though, but there's my two cents

If you dont have enough drop pods proxy some with cups and lose the rhinos (if you use). I pressume your a SW player? Then get long fangs do all HBs and nasty long range anti infantry (PCs and MLs). Just my 2 cents since i dont do SW :p

1850 points (buying new stuff)

Thanks for the replies, but about simply attacking the troops from behind. This is not exactly possible for me seeing as the tau player is primarily vehicle and battlesuit army. He only has his 2 troops for 1500 points, and he generally keeps them in transports, and never deploys them? Still anti-tank?

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high

Maybe some equivalent of sternguard with combi-meltas in drop pods, blow up all his tanks, then have the rest of your army deal with the rest of his?

Bedouin Dynasty: 10000 pts
The Silver Lances: 4000 pts
The Custodes Winter Watch 4000 pts

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum.

Get inside 12" of any tank the disruption pod doesn't work then.
focus on the larger items IE the Railguns
Crisis suits are annoying but not impossible force him into a corner and he's screwed with no where to run
