Currently trying to work out a proper color of the armor for my khorne marauders and I keep running into blood angel syndrome, in which my armor keeps coming out like blood angels >_>

What I really want ffrom my khorne armor is a 'wet' blood like effect that is suitable to have on armor, that will look decent with battle damage on it but I don't know what to use... This armor was done using a Khador color mix i.e Machrite red and Blood red with an orange blood red mix highlight but its just too darn bright after it dries.

It could be fixed with dipping in Dark Tone Quickshade. I am using similar scheme for my Dark Eldar.

Try priming them black then putting on a light coat of scab red (or diluted khorne red) Then paint some red gore but leave a little room from the details. Then a mix of blood red and red gore on the brighter bits. highlight with blood red.

Only 1 layer per color. make sure you water it down so that it is milky. This should make your armore the right color. Blood effects are geneealy very dark and hard to do right so practice on a sprue first. mix red gore with black till its a very dark red. paint that where you want the blood and lighten the outside with a slightly brighter mix of red and black. like a gradient.

Hmm, that sounds good to me, I'll wait to see what the wash does with the poster above but yeah, I really want the armor to look more like fresh blood then actual paint.

Maybe try Tamiya Clear Red?

It's designed to be used for painting headights so it dries translucent.

Here is an example of it at work (not my picture)

Could go the simple route and use delvin mud (or whatever it is called now) then go back with Possibly scab red to pick out your highlights to get that thick blood look. If i was doing Khorne (which i know you didn't ask lol) I would go with a metallic silver normal ol boring armor color.. then have the model coated in old dried and even fresh gooey blood (painted on gloss coat)

That looks incredibly nice, it still actually looks wet I think I may have to use this. Is that all thats involved is layer with the red onto pre-highlighted metal armor? or is there a bit more to that effect?

Nope, you just slap it on and it dries glossy and translucent. You can mix it with other colours to change the effect for older blood stains, typically purple and black I think.

It could also be what color you are base-coating with. As an example, I wanted my khorne berzerkers to have clotted blood color, so i base-coated with a 1 part red 2 parts brown color, and used the same thing with my blood-letters too.

I'm tempted to suggest trying to basecoat in pink...... it's all moot though, looks like you've got a solution.

I don't have any pictures handy, but I get a good, deep red by basing with Vallejo Model Color Hull Red, washing with Devlan Mud and highlighting up to GW Scab Red. I have picked up the red glaze GW just put out and that brightens things up a bit without pushing into the orange range.

I've used the Tamiya clear red, it's not that bad, the above pictures in a previous reply is a good shot of it. I use it on my khorne models all the time .

That stuff is ideal ty for suggesting it to me! I just got done going over the arm you can see in the first picture thats pointing (was a failure from a different experiment) and it seems to even go nicely over that, albeit a quick test. Added some damage in too, to see how it goes with the silver and its pretty good too!
