They are crazy good, work best in chimeras.

Few things of note on psykers
1) They are better in Rhinos if you are going for a "Psykers only" unit.
What you get:
a) Fortitude is great
b) Cheaper
c) self repair
What you loose.
a) Firepoints (not needed for psykers)
b) BS3 guns (useful, but not needed and counteracted by the cheaper cost for the rhino)
If you are combining them with other shooting, the chimera is the option of choice as you need the firepoints.
2) Learn to play around Psy-defense.
I however do not like putting any other shooting with my Psyker units. You NEED to play keep away from hoods. With LD8 your power already only goes off 3/4 times. If there is any psy-defense that is cut significantly. However most psy-defense is 24" or less so you can keep out of range by moving and shooting at 36".
Other weapons either make you want to get close (meltas) OR not move (lascannons or Plasma cannons)
Things to watch out for
Eldar runes of warding: This alone will break your army if you take all psykers. Basically, your squad has a better chance of exploding itself than the enemy.
GK Dreadnoughts: Makes you test on LD4 if you want to shoot anything within 12". ruins your day.
3) Servo Skull and Objective placement.
This can make the difference between psykers being decent and being great.
a) Place an objective in the middle of an open section of the board.
b) Place a servo skull about 9-10" away from that objective towards your side of the table.
c) make sure your psykers can fire a shot onto that objective
If the enemy wants that objective they will have to take accurate psyker fire.
If they want to destroy the skull, they need to get closer to you and get off of the objective.

Inquisitor with Communion and a Hex Rifle
3x Plasma Servitors
Whatever else you want. Bullet catchers, maybe jokaero, maybe even a small group of psykers.
You get more consistent shooting at 36" and you get the cheap psy-communion as well for the rest of your deep strikers.
