I see a lot of models with a leg up on a rock or something. All my space marines stand up straight and don't have much variety. Am i missing something or are people able to cut the legs and pivot them or something. Just wondering.

Most of the time a model will have been cut, remodelled and pinned into a different pose. I'm not ruling out the concept of having used a different Special Characters legs for the model you saw but alot of people do the reposing themselves. Takes some skill and GS to get right but gives you alot more freedom of modelling.
