I was thinking about becoming involved in FOW, however the only army to really catch and hold my attention was the US from the Vietnam expansion.
Are the armies from the Vietnam war expansion compatible with the rest of the game?
Are the armies from the Vietnam war expansion balanced with the rest of the game?
Will conventional FOW players refuse to play against a Vietnam army?

Yeah, that's probably for the best.

As to the OP, *ahem*:

No.

No.

YES.

If it helps put it into perspective, think about it like this. You've got a bunch of people enjoying a company-sized WWI game. How would they feel if another player came along, and wanted to use his 1944, Eastern Theater Panzerkompanie against them? Do you think things might be a little skewed in his favor?

Your best bet is to simply pick up an American force, and then find a Vietnamese force that can put up a decent fight (look into getting Tropic Lighting).

Or, on the other hand, simply tuck yourself under Big P's guiding wing and let him steer you away from FoW Vietnam. There are better rulesets for figthing in Vietnam than FoW (personally, I'd think they should have done a Arab-Israeli War expansion).

Yer... That Ambush Valley aint bad for 'Nam... Works well in 15mm too, though I think you can game Vietnam in any scale to be honest.

AV is firmly focussed at the platoon level engagement, and dare I say it myself, remodels the 'Force-on-Force' engine very successfully to give the right period feel.

It also contains all the TOE and historical data you could ever need for Vietnam and a few scenarios...

With regards the OP, Im now thinking of that Japanese film where a Japanese Defence Force units goes back in time and ends up fighting Samurai with tanks... That was a cool film!

There's also Charlie don't Surf, made for 15mm company sized actions. But it's not quite your regular wargame, if you are into points and battles between two equal strength forces.

Mind you, Vietnam weren't exactly fought between equal strength forces anyway...

Yeppers and all that historical reading in it and the obscure TO&E's. Why would I want to actually know about the History of a conflict I just want to move models around a game board

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!
