So I decided to come back to my roots of Warhammer Fantasy. I started playing 4th edition fantasy then switched over to 40k. Well at a 40k tournament this weekend I won enough prize money and decided to buy a Island of Blood starter set because I have bunch of friends that had stopped playing 40k and switched to Fantasy. So I am thinking of playing the High Elves and selling the Skaven to a friend. I was wondering what my first couple boxes of models I should pick up to get to a decent 2000 points, I know I need more core units already, any help would be great. Thank You in advance

One thing you should realize that posting on here is that more often then not people usually just look @ the lists to get ideas for themselves and move one, trust me sometimes people just dont feel like replying, it doesnt mean that there are more 40k players then fantasy ones .
With High Elves it is a general rule that for any list you want to build your army with the minimum points of core in it as possible as our special choices are much better and are the strength of the majority of our lists. It also depends on what type of strategy you are thinking of doing, are you wanting a more defensive army or one that goes on the attack?

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

Well being completely new to this edition not 100% sure but I would like to be defensive with a counter-attack if that's possible. Some shooting elements with some assault type units to back them up

Swordmasters and whitelions will dominate your special. A couple of eagles for rare. Wizards will do the shooting along with a couple small units of archers. Bsb is very important.

Defensive doesn't work well with T3 troops with 5+ armour at best. You want to be running towards your opponents with your Always striking first great weapons and extra rank of attacks. Whilst your wizards are there either shooting spells at your enemy or boosting your own troops. On that note here is a list I used to have for High elves. A level 4 for my lord on life. Ethereal, Immune to magic weapons. Level 2 on fire. Jewel of the Dusk. Level 2 on beasts. Seerstaff. BSB with Standard of Sorcery. Great weapon and Dragon Armour 2 blocks of 25 Seaguard with FC... With shields. 22 Archers. 20 Swordsmasters with FC 20 White Lions with FC 2 Eagles That didn't fare too bad. That should be all you need for specials.

I’ve been playing High elf’s since there last book, which was a up high battle the entire time. since there new book, I feel as though high elf’s have become a very predominate army. Everyone so far has been on the money; filling your special to 50% every time will win you games with strong Lord/hero choices. I’ve done very well with magic heavy or CC heavy, say running the Lord on griffin that you got out of the island of blood as a CC character killer is amazing or making him the bsb with the battle banner and crashing into sides of units for that D6 + combat res murders units, IMHO. I love that model personally. But make sure your running Big blocks of Spearmen, the LSG are not worth there money and archers tend to well just suck i always run 10 but only to fill out my 25%. Next if you’re going magic heavy run phoenix guard with the sorcery banner for a steadfast tuff unit that won’t be going any were anytime soon. The Sword masters are your whorl wind unit. Whatever they touch they tend to mess up just watch what your putting them up against. There Str5 is great but not vs. a 2+ armor save. And running a bsb is always a good idea. Personally i love the banner of the world dragon, I put it on a bsb and run the SM at 20 and they don’t have much to worry about and once there in combat there good. And as for cav that’s up to you, the reveres are useless, and if you have great eagles always use them instead. But if you put up a list I would be glad to help you out with the fine touch.
