I saw it mentioned on one of the games workshop 'whats new today' articles, just wondering if anyone has tried this and has some advice?
I want to make an ice disk of tzeentch with icicles and stuff but i test melted some flying bases and ended up blackening them as well as melting them,

This video has a good explanation of how to use clear flying bases for icicle.
Its about 3:35 into the vid.

Not the greatest of videos, but this might help a tad:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE-tK5kTb4E&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL7260CA45FAFD57C7

this didn't involve melting a flying base, but instead uses hot glue.
Hot Glue gun: $5 tops
Hot Glue: $5 tops
Wax paper: $3 tops

Dollar Store? $4 for all 3!

Hell yeah..

If you really do prefer your route with clear plastic:

Do you have any very fine grit sandpaper around? Only the surface should be burnt so you should be able to polish it out fine with sand paper, steel wool or maybe even toothpaste.

They also make clear resins that work in a way somewhat similar to greenstuff, but it dries clear.

Water Effects work rather well and cheaply if you're patient with it. The only problem being that it warps slightly as it dries causing a bit of a curve in icicles.

You can get some rather acceptable results with it. I used it here on a Malifaux Ice Gamin:

Pardon the hasty images.

i've also noticed that water effects doesn't dry perfectly clear it comes out quite yellowy which is not what i'm after

i think i will try melting flying bases again and sanding off any blackening i get, worked with my test icicles... hahaha testicles
but also wanna look into clear dry resins for the big black of ice i want for the disk of tzeentch...(like a floating iceberg with icicles off it

Dear BAN,

For this technique watch the video from the link. It also gave me a lot more ideas for basing my models.
