I'm looking to keep the cost down low and still have my army remain pleasing to the eye and tournament eligible (no proxy units).
Any idea's are welcome although I dont intend on using transports (or at least as few as possible) while remaining effective due to the fact that I just cant afford to mechanise my army.

is the tornament 1 hq and 1 troop choise minimum?

You're usually better off with posting a list with your thoughts and having people make changes. It's lazy and usually leaves people disinterested with helping you by just asking to be spoon fed a list.

But I'm bored so you're in luck... You'll usually see people run different variations of:

Company Command Squad 4 melta w/ Chimera Hull Heavy Flamer 145
Veterans 3 Melta + Demolition w/ Chimera Hull Heavy Flamer + Heavy Stubber 185
Veterans 3 Grenade Launcher + Lascannon w/ Chimera 160

Heavy Stubber is just a points filler. You could drop it and give one of the GL a PlasmaG instead. Charge with two squads and last squad can stay back and act as antitank (transport against AV10-11 crew against AV12+) and can move 6" if need be and still fire the Grenade Launchers and MultiLaser. Obviously this is just the Vet spam style. Meltas kill anything and those HFlamers will wreck some face too. Some people prefer to run basic squads so that they can fit in a Leman Russ to surprise people or maybe drop the HStubber, Nade Launchers, and last squad's Chimera to get a Griffon or Hydra.
