I noticed my guardsmen look 100% cooler if they're totally coated in brown ink. Is it worth it to simply dip them somehow?

Unnessesarily extravegant word of the week award goes to jcress410 for this:

There's a technique for using minwax soaking your models but I've never tried it. It was a how to for speed painting Orcs.

Anyway it's always worth a try to test on a model and see if you like it. I prefer washes since you can control the amount you apply.

I've seen a few good dipped Guardsman right here on Dakka Dakka. I'm experimenting with it right now, actually. The only issue is you are asking about ink and not quickshade. I've considered trying it, but I can't help but feel like unless you are getting your ink in bulk for a good price, it would be cheaper to go with quickshade. If you end up going the ink dip route, post some photos, it sounds at least interesting and at best awesome.

It's an ugly planet. A bug planet.

I have guardsmen with Chaos black armor/boots/helms, Codex Grey pants/sleaves, Regal Blue shoulder pads, and Dwarf Flesh for skin. So they might be darker than what you have but I have a can of QuickShade on it's way (will probably take another week or two to arrive) but when I get the first one done (that comes out decently) I'll post pics.

It's a recommended technique for 6mm models. You paint them the basic flat colours, then paint with brown ink.

In other words the ink is used as a wash.

It could work fine on IG. You need to experiment a bit.

Quickshade has the advantage that it varnishes at the same time as shading.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
