Subject: MOTORIZED Infantry in the Imperial Guard?
|

Motorized infantry are infantrymen transported in trucks and other motorized vehicles (as distinguished from mechanized infantry, which consists of men transported in APCs such as the Chimera).
My question is; does this style of warfare take place in the Imperium of man? Ages ago there was a conversion for an armoured car in the pages of white dwarf, but we rarely see any reference as to trucks and things, even for the transportation of supplies such as ammo, never mind men despite their being faster and cheaper. Does anyone know of any references to motorization in the imperial guard?

In most real armies, the troops disembark form the transport trucks before the fighting starts, meaning that the vehicles are sitting in the background, off the table. There is mention of trucks in Double Eagle, but as logistics support, not battlefront units. In the IG, supplies are carried by Trojans Trojan

Yeah, even for logistical support, the IoM tends to use tracked vehicles, based on the same chassis' as their armoured vehicles, as you can see the Trojan is based on a Chimera, whilst the Atlas recovery tank is based on the Russ, and the Sentinel Powerlifter based on.... Well... It should be obvious from the name
There has been mention (usually brief) in various locations (The only one I can think of off the top of my head is in Necropolis) of trucks and other wheeled/half-tracked vehicles. But so far none have ever really been shown in model form. I've seen a couple of Ork Trukk kits de-orkified and imperialised to make some that were rather cool.

With a million or so planets within the Imperium, there will be regiments whose main means of transport is by wheeled vehicle.

This is an example of the tabletop influencing the fluff. While the Guard does have standardized designs, due to the sheer size and scope of the Imperium there are massive amounts of unstandardized weapons unique to worlds, regiments, sectors, etc.. But naturally all of these can't be reflected on the table, so we have everyone with Leman Russ/Chimera/etc.
This is particularly true to PDF's I imagine, which can even operate "older" weapons platforms like helicopters, diesel-powered tanks, jet engine fighters, and so on.

There is a half-track type vehicle that only has canvess coverings on the back.
I don't remember what its called though.
The Trojan is a repair and recovery vehicle primarily IIRC.

While I haven't ever seen mention of motorized IG, there has to be some someplace that use something like a Stryker or a BTR-60. In certian types of terrain, they would prove to be a real asset, maintance is eaiser and just transporting them is a whole lot eaiser.

A Chimera is similer to a Stryker. Both are IFVs where the chassies is used for other types of vehicles.
