Curt Covert joins Russ and Craig in Episode 101. Curt is the owner and Chief Instigator at Smirk and Dagger Games and the creator of Cutthroat Caverns, Hex Hex, Run for Your Life Candyman and other games that prove "Games are a lot more fun when you can stab a friend in the back".
Up first Curt, Craig, and Russ take a positive look at Kickstarter. How is it helpful and why would a company owner like Curt consider using it?
Later the crew takes a detailed look at the Wizards of the Coast board game "Lords of Waterdeep." Mixing Euro mechanics with a D&D theme?
All that and our other not-too-horrible segments including:
- The Hollywood Minute
- Total Fan Girl
- Do You Ever Notice
- When you wish upon a game
- & More

Hey guys! Just finished Episode 100 in the car yesterday. I've managed to fall behind on my episodes again (being in the middle of a cross-country move will do that), but belated congrats on 100 episodes!

Great show as always, guys. I seriously did a fist pump when I refreshed my podcast feed before bed and saw a new episode downloading in my queue....
Anyway, I'd love to hear a segment (or purchase a Lost Chapters episode) on role playing over the web...what you need to get started, suggestions for finding a group, what systems work best virtually, etc.
A while back, you interviewed someone at GenCon about Outbreak Undead, and after finally purchasing a copy I'd really like to dip my toes into RPing. Since none of my friends/family have any interest, and my son is still too young, something like a Skype-based group may be my best bet.
Keep up the great work!

A good show once again.
I love how enthusiastic you got about the Lords of Waterdeep, and it sounded like you had a tremendous time playtesting it.
Kickstarter is an awesome new trend. Sort of democratizes what new stuff gets off the ground and on the shelf.

Glad to hear what you guys had to say about kickstarter this time. I was really hoping you would revisit it after the last time it was discussed.
I wrote a lengthy blog post about my experience during the 40 day duration. http://crossoverminiatures.com/2012/01/27/my-kickstarter-experience/
It's really a wonderful thing to help creative projects. The only thing that can stop it is some very large scandal.
I've already kickstarted a miniatures range and am looking at kickstarting the second round of releases about three months after these hit the net. I've learned a lot form my first experience and was 140% funded. Due to the success of my first project, I will be able to have a bit more cash to get things started this time, so the next project can be grander or have a lower project goal, I haven't decided yet.
Keep up the great work and I'm glad you took the time to investigate this fantastic new(ish) engine for our hobby. Now to try and talk my wife into playing lords of waterdeep.

Great episode as usual, but I felt like Craig was using the echo effect a bit too much.

Thanks, just what I need, another large model count game...
Great episode, I've always like Curt Covert when you've interviewed him in the past; and he still holds up like a champ.
Lords of Waterdeep is also giving me a serious itch. Too many games alread line my shelf space without making it to the table...maybe this one will be different.
I never really got the 'Wicked' bug. If memory serves, it came out about the same time as 'Scarlett' and 'Cosette", books that dove into someone else's well for what I could only see as the most financial of reasons. It seemed in that vein, so I just couldn't be bothered. With as little reading time as I get (including audio versions), it's not likely to find its way into the cue. Good on you, Craig, for giving it more of a chance than I have.
Goodness, I'm maudlin today. I'll just have to go look at Russ's Adepticon 2012 pics some more. Hooray for tree-chucking troll monstrosities!

I think you've convinced me to get Lords of Waterdeep. That and Eclipse will likely be my only boardgame purchases of 2011-2012...I am a careful shopper.
It is sort of interesting to hear your - and especially Craig's - attitude to the game, and how the theme-packaging gets him into it, despite its Eurogame mechanics.

Just finished the ep, great show as always guys! I liked the further exploration of Kickstarter, although to be honest, i didn't get the same negative vibes from the earlier episode that some may have gotten. It definitely seems like it is great for certain things, though by no means is it a panacea. Did anyone else here see the Extra Credits episode about it on PATV? Here is the link:
http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/crowdfunding
I'm also intrigued by Dust Warfare; Russ and Craig certainly seemed to be enjoying it at Adepticon! About the only thing that has prevented me from getting into it is the fact that my gaming time is about to be drastically curtailed by the Navy .
