I have been messing around with plasticard to make scratch vehicles, but this one is too large for my taste so I started over.
It was meant to be an upsized Hellfire Land Raider, but I changed my mind and begun making smaller sized Hellfires instead.
This one gave me lots of practice however. Very sturdy.
It is over 2 lbs largely thanks to the use of many washers for wheels.

Is this something that I should consider selling to take off my hands?
More images are visible in my gallery.

I expect this to be a very good basic shape for a fellow modeler to add weapons and details to.
Opinions welcome!

it looks very well made, but the track sections are just so gigantic...

Indeed. In the first LR design, the proportion of the Hellfire tracks were over 50% of the proportional mass of the vehicle (Rogue Trader pg.110).
I was hooked on that aesthetic twist on the WWI tank theme, and was disappointed when the Land Raider plastic first came out with the chassie volume increased to over 55% instead.
Others might not have noticed the difference, but as a sculptor/artist/concept designer, I did.

As the years have gone by, 40k initial retro-futurism has been watered down to a more conventional style, only glombed over with medieval surface detail. Track proportions have dropped to real-world historical standards and I find that just a little boring.

Even so, this version I made here is TWICE the overall size of the original, so that makes those tracks seem even MORE huge.
Perhaps it's more fitting for a 'GTF-out-of-the-way' Ork basher?

Try to market it as a "True Scale" Land Raider.. for those who want to keep their vehicles in scale with the bigger-ized marines..

Back after a long while. I just thought I'd up pics of what I finally honed in on...

Behold the Mark 1 Hellfire Land Raider!

I upped the size a bit to account for the modern scale of current models, but not as much as the first attempt shared above.

Rivets would seem in order if it were not for the fact that this design is meant to be based off of the RT era design featured in the original rule book.

I'll be much more satisfied putting that energy into other details such a camo-netting bags, an antennae, perhaps field tools, etc..

I intend to give it a real beat up WW1 feel, the way some might do their IG Leman Russ.

I'd be tempted to spread the joy, but would have to ask for so much pay, one might as well order a quality FW model.

I sculpt for a living you see. So whenever I hobby, I am always very aware of the co$t of the labor I do for myself. Counting the trial and error, this little bugger cost me a few hundred dollars.

hmmmm i see, im after an nice looking hell hound? As the GW is terrible and the FW aren't quite what im after. But if its too steep in the pocket or if its not worth the time and effort i understand. But i am just about to buy the forge world hell hound...

Don't know which is which, but the Hellhound with the big tank in the center of its back and the pipe leading to the front looks great to me. A very 1938 feel. I think Forge World products are among the best things you can get from GW quality wise. And I'm a huge fan of the lead design team too. If they had made the Hellfire Landraider the way it had first impressed me in the 80's, I'd not have bothered to scratch build it myself, cause theirs would surely be awesome. But alas, they ret-conned the Hellfire and gave us the Proteus instead.
