So since my birthday was just recently, I've been deciding wether to buy a kilt in my Scottish Clan tartan (Henderson clan if you wish to know), or start a new army. I may just buy a kilt and then use my basic income of a 14 year old to slowly build up an army. Anyway, I'll be building up a new IG army regardless. It will be WWI themed, meaning gas masks, basic greyish, bleak color scheme, and lots of barbed wire and mud on bases. The models will be very muddy in appearance, and I plan on using some of GW's new texture paints for this. It will be probably a mixture of parts of Cadians, Krieg, and Armageddons, but so far there is no main uniform for them. Anyeay, here's the list. It will be large enough for Apoc battles.

10+ infantry squads with various weapons choices

2 Chimeras

5 Rough Rider squads

2 Heavy Bolters

3 Lascannons

2 Leman Russ Eradicators

2 Leman Russ Demolishers

2 Leman Russ Exterminators

6 Leman Russes with lascannons

4 Basilisks

1 (maybe 2, if I'm up for it) Baneblades

As you can see, it will be large, so this will be about a 2 year project. It follows a sort of rule of 2 when it comes to various types of troop classes. Pictures will be up when I get the chance. And sorry if I'm not supposed to post without pictures, I'm fairly new.

The answer to everything Lord Commisar, Is cheese. You can run the tanks on melted cheese. You could feed to troops cheese. You could build bases with cheese. We can repel the aliens and traitors with cheese. We can defend the Imperium with cheese.

For Apoc It could work.. WW1 is more heavy weapon teams and Artie. and tons of infantry. What kinda of army theme are you going for ? German French British American ? If British you can do more tank heavy. German more artie and infantry and specialist. As well you should sit down and make a 2k list first then work up to higher points.

A family's colors are more important by far. Hobbies come and go, family is forever. Especially when it comes to buying this many things for 40k it's especially a bad choice.

Strangely enough, for my 16th my parents offered to buy me a new kilt (Allans) and I asked for a new bass guitar instead. I hope you don't make the same mistake. You might not wear it often but it's important to have.

You might not have an "income" but you can slowly build it, as you said it'd take 2 years to get together anyways so you have time. Use it wisely.

If you're going for a WWI army theme then you're going to want artillery and infantry first a foremost, with Rough Riders added for good measure. Keep your tank selection small, and look to the Mark I and/or A7V for visual inspiration (you're definitely going to want sponson weapons on tanks in a WWI themed army).

Or, if you're just looking at WWI as a visual theme, then you can take whatever you want. That doesn't exactly dictate the contents of your list, however. Honestly, the list that you have here is pretty vague, and will require an incredible investment in time and money. You may be better off doing something less ambitious, or getting your family colors with your gift money and then slowly raising a Guard army with your own income.

Well the main reason for the tanks is that they can really make a difference in an Imperial Guard army. The army style will be more of a German style army, just because I think they look coolest. And yes sir felixander, I'm going to get the kilt since I'm very proud of my heritage, and this may be my only chance to get one. I will revise the list however. Sorry for the vagueness, the list is still a sort of WIP.

Revision list (I'm taking advice and making it smaller at first)

5 Infantry squads (10 men each)

3 Heavy Bolters

3 Lascannons

5 Rough Riders

3 Basilisks

Oklahoma City, Ok.

I'd really drop the HB's forAutocannons.
I get it that the HB fits the WWI theme.
But the ACs will serve you better, IMHO.

WW1 styled might be better suited with the Siege Regiment list, more static artillery and better close combat troops
