Corsairs have lasblasters by default but can switch to shiriken catapults for free. Do you think the 1 point of extra strength is worth cutting the range?

Going to need more information about your force before we can decide on if it is worth it or not. Are you going to be running a static gun line?

I did a lot of thinking on this, and I felt the extra range was worth it. My overall thinking is corsairs will be a true finesse army, living and dying by being able to jump out, shoot a bunch and jump back. This means that the threat range of any jump pack corsairs unit is going to be gun range + jump back to cover range. with a 12 inch gun range, this is pretty unforgiving, you are going to have fewer chances to shoot, you are going to be more limited in the targets you engage and you are going to be more strictly tied to cover then with the 24 inch range. It also means that multiple jump pack squads can support each other from differnt cover points with the longer range.

If you are not using jumppacks, then it doesn't become as clear cut. Sniper units of 5 with an EML, again I think you are better off with the range, since it means you might get an extra one or two rounds of shooting. If on the other hand if you are taxieing them around and planning to get them close to begin with, I could see the extra point of strength being useful.

Lasblasters are so much better than shuriken catapults that shuriken catapults have nothing left to do except whine on the internet.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I am starting to formulate a full size corsair list (1500-2000pts). And my feeling is this weapon choice is going to decide the coarse the army is going to take. I am hoping to have 3-4 squads of Corsair troops and I think that the range plus jetpack is the way to go. switching the ShriCats, the army is going to be transport heavy like a standard Eldar army.
