If you remember 40k used to have the rainbow marines. They were like Incan/Aztech sort of dudes with jungle cat pelts, feather crowns, and leopard pateren chainswords.
So the question is, How would you make these marines?

A great source for Aztec bitz is the Lizardmen line. Lots of cool glyphs and banners, even weapons that could be converted to make them into power weapons. Think power sickle . Lots of feathered head-dresses and bitz as well. Cat Pelts would be provided by High Elf White Lions, and you could even score some of the lions from the chariot to use as companions or even steeds (Counts as Space Wolves). The only issue is that lions have manes and South American big cats do not, so that would require some removal ang GSing. I would downplay the Rainbow thing though, or your army will look like Carnivale IN SPAAAAACE!

Some Tomb Kings bits will also be useful, especially when converted a little - there's a similar animal vibe going on, and all those skulls and bones everywhere.

And Forest Goblins are a good source of feathery bits.

Are you kidding? I'm surprised no-ones done the Aztec theme yet. Hmmm, blood worshipping society with golden masks, intricate art, leopard skins... sounds like a job for the Blood Angels and Sanguinary Guard models. Look at those Deathmasks, if they dont say Maya/Inca what does. The wings can be painted multi colored and represent mythical beasts. Make the teeth on chainswords black to represent Obsidian . Heck Astorath looks like a Hi priest about to cleave a Sacrifice in two.

also check out some of puppet wars and maxi mini alternate heads and weapons.
They probably lean more towards egyptian style but may suit your needs,

Its in rogue trader I believe, old army. It is on lexiconum but not much about them is known. They were swept up into the ultramarines along with the solar shadows. (Look like death guard)
It basicly said that the ultramarines used them as scouts for forest worlds, the rest of them died out or were just completly turned ultramarine.

Yep I think they were one of the first chapters. Middle of the bottom three on the right.

Some nice ones were here, could draw inspiration from them. Lizardmen parts of course, including one riding a dino. Though Dakka and Flickr seem to have issues from time to time so you may have to click the picture links there to see them if they don't load.

The Rainbow Warriors are also illustrated on p7 of the Space Marine Collector's Guide :

For the sake of completeness, another chapter uses the symbol of the Rainbow Warriors, named Death Strike, they are also in the collector's guide and How To Paint Space Marines

I forget which forum the Aztec theme for the Rainbow Warriors was proposed(several years ago); it was a DIY concept and not anything GW ever even toyed with. I saved the info because I thought it was a great idea but I'll be damned if I can find it. The pictures above are just about the only thing official that GW did with this chapter other than a single picture in the early days. Back in RT days there was an inked-line drawing of a SoB killing a Rainbow Warrior.

Another DIY idea that I've seen proposed for the Rainbow Warriors is to tie into the Polynesian theme via the University of Hawaii Warriors. Once upon a time they were known as the Rainbow Warriors (relating to a Polynesian myth about a demigod known as the Rainbow Warrior)

Yes well lexiconum has an entire page on them. They would be vanillas now but they had like aztec looking chainswords.
