I'm getting started with painting my models, and I've found I'm lacking in experience in painting. I've painted before, but never seriously, and never with stellar results. And with the apparent subtleties of model paints, I'm sorta-kinda at a loss of what to do, leading up to my questions-

1.) Would anybody recommend the Games Workshop guide on painting? It seems to be decent, and helpful to a beginner, and I don't too terribly mind feeding the Games Workshop bigwigs and aristocrats their monthly paychecks.

2.) I'm playing Dark Eldar, and I've decided on a primarily black color scheme with green highlighting. I'm also aware I'll need pale flesh. Would this color scheme work? And, also, if anyone wishes to answer, what kind of paints would be recommended for a scheme like this?

I thank everyone who reads and/or takes the time to answer in advance.

I'd recommend Youtube tutorials over the GW guide, whilst usually well written and helpful GW dont have a tutorial of every technique or every army available, meanwhile you can usually find something relating to a similar project to yours online for free, saving you the rest of your money for more paints, batter brushes, other tools etc. That said with the new GW paints out I dont know if the internet monkeys have got tutorials for them up yet (I'd guess probably, if not then soon).

As for painting Dark Eldar I'm next to useless on advice, never touched them before but in my experience your highlights need to be good to carry off a black scheme well, make sure they're tidy and if neccessary build them up slowly, nothing worse than lumpy edge highlighting.

I was doubting the presence of Dark Eldar advice in that book, so I think I'll skip it. I'll also forsake that green highlight and just stick with a standard black scheme.

Also, looking at about three minutes of Tae's stuff, I think that I may want to view more of it. It seems like it could help me out extensively.

I havent seen the new GW guide, but previous GW tutorials have been good. Id think it was worth buying then you can supplement it with youtube videos and tutorials online.
