Is it possible to have a fun rpg game with only 2 people? We are both very creative if it helps

Lol all I can think of right now is the Unforgotten Realms webshow series.

Yes it is possible, obviously you should control multiple characters and party/character/item/skill/etc management can become a little hectic.

I prefer a group of 3-4 players + DM

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause.

Aye, its fine. Me and Aurelia have been in that position for the past seven years. To be fair, we had done it previously even when we had a group back in Cornwall, as we are both heavy Rpers.

However, yeah two is fine. I just make them much more character driven. You can also touch on themes you would normally avoid in bigger group games as its too slow for those not involved.
Basically, rise to ruler games, politics, and that kind of social interaction on a intense basis. The DM/ST in general should expect to run more Npc's including part allies, other group characters on occasion, but that shouldn't be too much of a issue for a seasoned DM.

Had a long conversation earlier tonight, between Aura's character and three others for example which must have been bizarre to watch from a fly on the wall perspective, but came off really well. Depends on how confidant you are roleplaying on the fly, as its pretty hard to pre plan that kind of multiple interaction.

Also the player has to be more forgiving of the DM guiding the story on occasion, as without the slight downtime of player interaction during a normal group game, you have to be on the game 24-7 as a DM, and sometimes for the good of the game a npc ally needs to point the player in the right direction.

I think we have it down to a bit of art at the mo though, we play around two to three games a week this way. In fact it'll be a little odd when we finally get a group again, its been ages.

Yes, it's very possible.

You shouldn't feel pressured to run more than one character. But considering that the GM has to manage everyone that you're no playing, controlling two or three PCs doesn't seem like the biggest challenge.

I actually find it quite doable and quite fun, in it's own way. The "feel" of the game totally changes as you don't have to worry about group dynamics or group balance. Instead you can basically ask the player "What awesome thing do you want to do?" When I DM'd for one player he ended up playing a thief that slowly took over a small merchant city through assassination, bribery, blackmail, etc. Really fun and really easy to focus on the elements that you both like, instead of having to balance playstyles. Oh, and this was with D&D 3.0, but I imagine the experience is the same regardless of system.
