Ok, page 16 says you may choose to not fire certain models if you so choose.

Does this mean that a unit that is rapidfire mixed with other weapons may choose to not shoot the rapid fire weapons, shoot the other weapons, and assault?

A new day, a new time zone.

If the 'other weapons' are assault weapons, then yes.

Not that it really makes a difference, but DR is correct. Pistols are not Assault 1. They are of weapon type Pistol.

Edit: Oh wait. I read the Pistol rules and the "are effectively Assault 1 weapons" so in the spirit of Earth Day, everyone can be right.

You can shoot whatever weapons you like. Useful if you want to prevent a cover save.

Or to prevent wound allocation shenanigans where the opponent could stack Instant Death wounds on one model - sometimes you kill less by shooting more, funny enough.

What about from vehicles? Can a stationary Leman Russ choose to only fire its Battle Cannon? Or *must* it fire its Heavy Bolters at the same target if possible?

Cheers

You can choose to fire whatever you want, you never have to fire.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

Might just be my brain not working today, but how are you preventing a cover save? Short of choosing to use a flamer, I'm not getting this..

You don't have to fire everything, just the battlecannon is fine. But if you do fire the heavy bolter, it must be at the same target.

Ah ok. I seem to remember reading a debate to the contrary back in the day, but this was a while ago.

I think the argument was that vehicles are still 'models' and the BRB only gives you permission to not fire with certain 'models' (BRB p.16) but not the individual weapons on said models.

I always thought it was a silly argument (it would seem to force you to shoot with 1-shot weapons the first time you shoot) but there you go.

If some people in your squad can see the target clearly, only shooting them will deny a cover save, even if most of the squad can't see the target.
