All I seem to be painting this year are big projects... Arachnarok, Tyranid Hierophant and now a Grey Knight Storm Raven.

This was a really enjoyable project. The Storm Raven is a great kit which goes together beautifully (unlike the dreaded warped Land Speeder models). With its large flat areas it's a great piece to practice freehand on. I had a lot of fun painting the iconography on, it really helps break up the model and make it look interesting. I did the same trick with my Ultramarine Storm Raven.

I wasn't going to weather the Storm Raven, because I spent so long blending the airbrushed armour. In the end I decided to try a new technique. Using an old blister pack sponge and some Rhinox hide, I dabbed the paint onto the raised edges to show tiny chipping clusters. I added some smoke damage to the exhausts and around the thrusters. It's just enough and not over the top.

I like it! Nice metals, epic freehanding!
Can't help but notice though that the model has scorchmarks and some paint chips, but is otherwise extremely clean

Nice work.

The only issue is the freehand of the sword on the left front door, the circle being a touch off center to the handle, but other than that it's quite good. I think I like the wings the most.

Very nice. The freehand on the wings is flawless, like you put a ruler next to it. The metal is clean but with nice detailing. Very impressive

Looks great, except for the blue highlights. Where is it supposed to be coming from?

There aren't any blue highlights?

It has blue shading, is that what you meant?

Yes, it doesn't look quite right, like it was just thrown on there. I can understand the effect you were going for, but the colour choice itself is off.

It's your opinion. I disagree though.

It's carefully thought out. The blue shading adds real depth to the model and stops it looking flat. I don't think you do understand the effect I was going for when you thought shading was called highlighting. Nice try though.

I'm not trying to troll you. The paintjob is fantastic, and it overall looks great. But the blue shading does not fit with the rest of the paint scheme. In some regions, the amount of blue, and colour of the blue used is confusing and does look like highlights. This is especially confusing around areas where blue light would normally emanate from, such as the lights on the front or your plasma cannons.

I wouldn't be so critical if I didn't have such a high opinion of you as a painter.

The freehand on this chicken is amazing man!! I thought for sure they where decals!!

I love the blue shading, it creates a very metalic-esque look to the model. I see it as if the light is catching on the higher parts of the vehicle and bringing out the blueish hues most silver colored metals have. Looks great!!

End of Line

Can you hear the call of the North Star?
Feel its longing in your heart
This bond is eternal sworn through blood
At the end we will stand as one!
Even if the daylight dies
Our horde marches on and on
If we should fall down to the ground
We'll rise again and never give up!
