I saw a pic on the web of people playing Infinity with Space Marine style tiles, for a boarding action type game, or, say, an attack on an airless moonbase.

Would you need to tweak the rules at all?

Any guidelines for setting up the "terrain" to keep the regular unit costs balanced? (Clearly any troops with AD are not going to work, though, unless we tweak the rules to allow them to land in limpet pod things somewhere...).

What scenario would you play using these bits?

Would it work to combine this with regular terrain? Personally I'd be inclined to avoid it, except perhaps as a 2-level scenario -- think, underground compex on a 3' x 4' board, with another 3' x 4' board next to it on the table, but set up to be the surface terrain, including elevator bunkers and other access points to the underground area.

How would you, as a player, tweak your forces? I'm thinking no snipers, and lots of short-range weaponry if available, although of course on the aforementioned 2-level setup, snipers on the surface might be incredibly useful....

Infinity has a specific Terrain type defined as "Zero-G" which is exactly what you're stating. Some units have the Zero-G ability allowing them to operate in these sort of conditions.

Disabling AD might be questionable. It makes YuanYuan, the space-pirates, not usable. Maybe make areas where you're allowed to AD and nowhere else. Disallow parachutist?
If your factions has them, they may be useful. Don't hate on Ariadna too much.

Disallowing snipers wouldn't make too much sense. After all, HMGs are basically similar to sniper rifles in Infinity anyways and oftentimes more desirable.
If you simply make the entire terrain area full of close-quarters corridors, people will be dissuaded against taking sniper rifles and even normal rifles. Boarding Shotguns and other fluffy weapons will naturally be ideal.

Oh, yeah, I wasn't suggesting disallowing snipers -- just that most people wouldn't want to take them anyway in a primarily indoors game (regular rifles or shotguns are more use there).

The problem with AD is, how do you justify parachuting into an indoors location? As I say, you could say the AD troops used some kind of limpet pods to drop in elsewhere...

The Zero-G option is definitely worth considering for some scenarios, and would fit with the spacecraft setting (though not with the underground complex or moonbase setting), good call.

I think what I should probably do is just try it out! Had a game of Incursion with my son the other day, and we were both frustrated and almost *surprised* when his units could only shoot back with Reaction Fire rather than (as with Infinity) being allowed to ARO dodge out of the way, which would definitely have done him more good under the circumstances. That's kind of what gave me the yen to try close quarters Infinity.

Ooh, found a whole thread about it on the Infinity forums:

Yeah, that'll be my stuff.

You can find the house rules (slightly tweaked for Space Crusade tiles instead of Space Hulk tiles) here:

That's really cool, thanks, IJW!

I meant "Space Hulk" tiles, of course. But yeah, Space Crusade (or, for that matter, Incursion) maps would also work perfectly -- better, in some ways.

Gonna try out the Demon Download scenario -- it's one of the few Infinity scenarios I've seen that would work very well for 3+ players, each with a small force (maybe 200 pts each). I might try it out at games night tomorrow -- a lot of our regulars are big Space Hulk fans.

Hmm, I'll be very interested to hear how it goes as a multi-player game.

@Ian Sturrock, the NUSU boarding-actions-with-Hulk-tiles ruleset is also fun to use, and not specific to a single mission. You can find them (along with other terrain-specific rulesets) here:

@IJW, did you write the NUSU rules for using Space Hulk tiles too? I see they're also on WGT, but you seem to be in the U.S.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Yes, the NUSU scenarios and rules are mine, I'm based in the UK.
