I'd wager they're probably the source of much of the Schola-Progenium's cadre and contribute a good portion towards the Inquisition ranks so they may not have a requirement to muster Guard Regiments.
They almost certainly have a very formidable PDF, however, and their numbers alone would probably rival any regiment several times over.
No sources for this, just my own musings.

I recall seeing something about Terran regiments on a list of forces involved in the 3rd war for Armageddon but that was outdated at best.
No actual fluff sources (as far as I know) on a PDF but it makes sense they would have the best ever.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

Terra has IG Regiments known as the Terran Armored Praefects. It also has a huge independent PDF, probably the largest in the Imperium.

Terra's PDF is probably close to the single largest ground force the Imperium has to call upon, whether it's population is a half trillion or a hundred trillion, it's going to be a colossal force given the very best in the terms of equipment that the Imperium has to offer outside of the Skitarii and the Astartes. They are right next to mars after all. And Harriticius is right, Terra's IG regiments are the Armoured Praefects, though they aren't mentioned very much.

Thank you! Always wondered what Terra contributed to the Imperium at large other than bureaucrats

I don't know if Terra has a PDF. But it wouldn't matter if they did because the Imperial Fists fortress monastery is on Terra. And there is almost always at least one marine company on Terra at a time. So they have a strong defense in any case.

It isn't actually...
Though the IF claim Terra as their Homeworld it is a symbolic gesture only.
They are, in reality, a fleet based chapter using the Phalanx as their Flagship...

Has there been any fluff set on modern (41st M) Terra (other than Ian Watson's old Inquisitor book)?

I read one of the Ragnar novels where he went to Terra, something about close ties with a Navigator house.... I can't remember much of it though... I can't even remember what the book is called

Im pretty sure any one going to attack Holy Terra is committing suicide. The PDF there should be indeed quite a large force but also quite heavily armed and trained to near perfection, same with the IG regiments there. I mean the Emperor and all the high lords are there and the Imperium will protect them at ALL costs so as far as I am concerned Terra is the most heavily fortified and populated world and you have also forgotten the Imperial Navy stationed there, that must be the Imperium's largest and most advanced fleet, hell the largest and deadliest fleet in the galaxy perhaps.

Well beyond the Horus Heresy only the Necrons succeeded in reaching the inner worlds. They landed on Mars to no discernible effect. And the three Harvest ships burned through the Imperial Fleet.
Also it was either during the Golden Age or Dark Age that the Orks also invaded Holy Terra.

Considering that Terra contains many Titans, along with the entire Adeptus Custodes, I don't think they really need to raise a PDF.
Also, they are the center of Imperial space. There's also the AdMech which would be on Terra quickly if anything were to go down.

If by landed on Mars you mean were vaporized before they touched down, then, yes.
