Nice to see some battletech action. Been trying to get some stuff organized down here since My last group fell apart. Never played it miniatures style as I like using maps but I would like to do games with the x-large hexboards with terrain and levels making it look nice I just have nowhere to put stuff like that atm.

We just start a Battletech night at the store were I play. It's been fun jumping right behind mechs and off loading all my lasers.
Hope it takes off in your area aswell.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

Using terrain?

The "normal" way as described by CGL doubles ranges and movement. You can print out 'Mechs sheets that way. You need area terrain for trees and such. True LOS, where partial cover is what you can't see instead of just a hill covering the legs.

Other than a couple little things for movement, it isn't that different from the mapsheet, but it is a lot more flexible and looks much better.

I mean how do you determine arcs, turning, distance and all that.

Some editions of the Battletech rules have miniature rules in them... I vaguely remember arcs are based off the hex base sides, as can be turning and such.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
Play the games that make you happy.

Arcs are based off of the hex base, it is kinda hard to describe without a hex base handy, but very easy to understand if you do.

Turning is still done by hex sides. You can turn less than a full hex side.

It is very important for a 'Mech to be on a proper hex base for it to work in minis rules.

Ive actually never played using the open terrain rules. When I started playing we used maps. Ive played on very large hex (4 inch IIRC) foam terrain that was in my old LGS.

I have a few pics in my gallery of Battletech on Heroscape terrain...which is plastic hex terrain, hexes are about 1 1/2 inches. It works perfectly.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes

I half a metric crapload and a half of HeroScape just for those purposes. I just wish it took less than a couple hours to set up a good sized field. And taking it down is even worse...

Thanks for all the responses i got a bit more Battletech Action for yall haha this was a game where we used rule from Tac Operations for Lighting strikes which we just called Orbital Bombardment Lots of chaos more pics to come. As far as 3-D Terrain we just prefer it and any distance issues we just round it as appropriate are bases are actually cut from the 25th set map sheets so very few issues

I hear ya on that. The wife and I had a game of Heroscape this weekend. Im thinking of trying it with regular wargaming terrain...just substituting inches for the hex spaces.
