Hello, everyone!

as the title says, I've tried to recreate a sonic blaster all by myself, and that's the result:

The "base" is a simple requiem, modified with a strange metal part I've casually found in an ironmongery store, some parts of a backpack (leavings from other stuff I've made) and a little bit of green stuff.
I've tried to made a sort of "overdrive bar" to retrieve the concept of sonic weapon and I like the result... but I'm not totally satisfied.
Something's missing... something to make the thing more chaotic!

Now I'm going to paint the miniature to see how it looks like with colours, but before... does anyone has suggestions?

It looks a little too much like a Melta for me - the Blastmasters had very distinct and organic-looking profiles, distinguishing them from Boltguns and other standard weapons. What I reccomend is a longer barrel with a few valve-looking things along it, to represent something like the body of a flute.
In short, the weapon should look like it shoots demonic noise, and nothing else. Perhaps a speaker grille over the barrel for the model you have already done?

It's a good start but I have to agree with the "looks too melta" comment. when I think Sonic Weapons I think "Hair Metal" when it comes to the marines and there weapons.

At first glance people will think it's a melta gun.

Ork Tournament Wins: 2

I agree. It's a very SICK looking melta gun, but maybe some tweaks will make it look more like a Sonic Blaster. If anything it needs a speaker

The cable/tube connector is maybe giving the overly fusion gun look? I like the muzzle. Jack's idea of adding some 'flute'-looking bits (perhaps on the top of the bolter body?) might help.

I really like the barrel, but as stated before, it does look a little bit to much like a meltagun. What about if you extended the barrel and added some more tubes to give it a more complicated look?

Meltagun?! Meltagun?!??! Completely missed the target, I guess!
I thought the little-vertical-backpack-recycled grille was enough, but it seems I was wrong... I will buy and add a real speaker grille as soon as possibile!

Anyway, thanks for the advices, I will work on this project, and I will probably involve a shoulder pad.
I like the flute (or organ-like, in my mind) concept and I've made some sketches with paint:

More cables connected to a shoulder pad with organ-like tubes (optional extra decoration on the barrel)

More cables connected to a shoulder pad with flute holes (?) like tubes

Some organ-like tubes added on the top of the weapon

Any other comments or more suggestions? Any help is appreciated!

When I'll be back home I'll check the name on the package.

I like the idea of "flute pipes" on top of the ex-bolter body. Making the shoulder pad part of the weapon is a cute idea too, especially if you can make it look "musical" rather than "exhaust pipe"-ish, if you see what i means. Perhaps rows of little pipes like a teeny weeny pipe organ? Some of the mechanical face shapes on the Chaos vehicle accessory sprue might be useful too?

I don't know if you have actually seen the metal Sonic Blaster bit but here is a pic of one.

Its a two handed weapon that is underslung with the forarm grip on the top. Its the size of a heavy bolter. The front also has a gargoyle head to help make it look different.

Myself, I made mine out of the chaos heavy bolter with a tank gargoyle head glued on the front. I did it because this kit wasn't available back then and all you could get was one SB and one BM in the EC box. However, I've found that the heavy bolter conversion works perfectly well.

I hate them too. I actually own a couple, but I don't like their appeal... that's the motivation of my experiment!

The gargoyle-head idea it's good (also seen a lot), but unfortunately I don't own a heavy bolter to customize, maybe I'll do that kind of modification using that piece from my next CSM box.

My dear Blood Lord Soldado, the pieces are, ill report it directly from the package, "compass expansions", made in brass.

My suggestions from your paint project would be either picture 1 or picture 3

Gah, I just realised that there was actually a grille over the barrel. I missed it completely and mistook it for a grooved barrel interior.

Given that there's already a speaker on it, all you need would be idea #2 (amp pauldron) to make it look good. I have a soft spot for Rave Marines. Perhaps glowsticks?

Actually there are TWO grilles (corresponding to the two frequences of the weapon): the bigger one at the edge of the barrel, and the little one on the top of the body.
Still working on the organ-like shoulder pad, anyway...
