Don't know if there are any Shadowrun fans out there but I just wanted to throw up the link to an awesome project on kickstarter that's nearing its goal of 1.5million. While this is to increase awareness for the kick starter its not just that.

I personally found my love for the shadow run universe through the pencil and paper RPG. The setting combined with the non d20 rules system really stuck with me and was a blast. So after having such a great experience with the sci-fi aspect of the RPG and the video games that followed I was quick to pick up 40k when my friends began playing. So in a way my transition to the table top hobby was sparked by the Shadowrun RPG. I just thought with the revival of the Shadowrun universe I would share my introduction story and see if anyone's was similar. That is RPG or other style game leading them into table top games and which games led you to which miniature system?

Already thrown $60 towards it. Never actually played it tabletop, always just done it online, in various MU*. Still do, on Shadowrun: Denver.

There was a skirmish level tabletop setup for SR back in the SR1 days (it used mapsheets and either card standups or miniatures) and was called "DMZ" (Downtown Militarised Zone).

It didn't use the same system as SR, but a simplified version and there was a chapter in the rules about converting SR characters across to it.

There's another thread about that's flailing about on the Video Games forum, but nobody seems to ever go there.

I started out with a $30 donation, then gradually worked my way up to $125 for the deluxe set. Honestly, the videos made me go higher. Those guys have a real passion for making this project work.

Weirdly enough though, I never actually played the RPG, or any of the old games. I'm just in love with the setting, honestly.

Played the rpg, still do but computer game versions don't have the same feel. No matter how 'immersive' they try to be. Also I don't do Paypal and have little faith in JW not doing the cut and run thing again.

Can anyone go into more detail as to what the game is they are proposing? I'm workblocked!

Is it something like the FPS they did 3-4 years ago (Booo!) or more like the game they did for the SNES 10+ years ago (YAYYYY!) or another game that I have missed?

I only realised Shadowrun was still being published a few few weeks ago so am dead keen on getting my mitts on a new game!

From the Kickstarter page about the game:

"Jordan Weisman, the creator of Shadowrun, is back and Shadowrun Returns (for Apple & Android tablets and PCs) is the game that Shadowrun fans have been waiting for a long time. A graphically rich 2D turn-based single player game with deep story interaction, meaningful character development, and highly-contextual tactical combat, Shadowrun Returns is not only going to make some old geeks (like us) very happy but it will introduce new players to a dynamic gaming universe that is beloved around the world."

Feel free to toss 33 grand in there, that'll put it right at its final stretch goal of 1.5 million.

Well, the funding's finally done. Including the paypal donations from people who couldn't use Kickstarter, the project ended at just shy of 1.9 million. Nearly five times the original amount requested, in less than a month's time. I'm pretty impressed with that. Not quite as much as Double Fine Adventure, but hey, they still raised almost $2 million in a month.

I feel your pain. The excitement got to be too much during the last twenty minutes, and I jumped my pledge up to $175 for all three t-shirts. My wallet is crying, but it's for the cause of seeing these guys get the funding they need to make Shadowrun Returns awesome.

Awesome! I used to play the tabletop RPG all the time. I wonder if you will be able to play as a Paraplegic Decker?

My favourite character by a long chalk.....

I wanted all three shirts, but with Wasteland II, Doublefind Adventures, Banner Saga, and some other things that I forget all being funded this month, I really couldn't justify the extra 50 bucks :(
