OK, everyone's seen avatar, so a Catachan dreadknight had to happen sooner or later, may as well get it out of the way now

This is still an early WIP, I'm seriously raiding the parts bin for this! The thing I'm having real issues with is the legs of the driver. What am I going to do with those stupid baby walker hanging legs? The way I see it I have 4 options.

1) Hang the legs below the cockpit as per standard dreadknight, maybe with some kind of harness (looks a bit weird with skinny Catachan legs)

2) Put some armour plating or some kind of cylinder assembly below the drivers body as if he's stood in something.

3) Chop the bit out below the soldier and do a sitting pose with pedals.

4) Something else you can think of?

I've attached a few quick phone pics so you can see the direction this is taking.

All suggestions gratefully received

I think it should be a closed compartment, alla Avatar Movie Suits.

Agreed.

Invert a jetbike cockpit, or trim down a land speeder. Or hell, you can even do it cost effectively and make it out of plasticard. But yeah, just box him in and have done with it.

Got to say dude, that is looking INCREDIBLE.

I think putting a sentinel cockpit int he middle would go a long way...

Also, modify the sword to be more physical and less grey knighty...

I understand that in Avatar, the power-suited-guy at the end used a knife, but it looks tremendously awkward to be holding a SWORD upside down.

I guess that's why sentinels have WS3.

Many thanks for the feedback guys. I agree, on closer inspection the sword looks awkward & weird, I'll make a replacement combat knife up out of plasticard I think.
It looks like the enclosed cockpit is the way to go, think I'll butcher a spare sentinel tonight and see what I can do.

OK, so I've taken on board the replies given here (cheers guys!) and altered things somewhat with this build although its still very much WIP.
The cockpit is now far more enclosed, although I still wanted the catachan partly visible and it's still to be finished. The silly sword has gone, and a scratchbuilt combat knife (In the pics & stood on the base but not yet attached) has replaced it.

All comments happily eaten, digested and belched back into the project

Very nice, make my sentinels look dated.
I was going to use the Dreadkinght as either a counts as bassie or Mantacore, what you have done here is very cool. You could pas-card like a top to the cockpit and screw it into place, then you have an armoured sentinel

Have to say, when I read the thread title, I really didn't think this would work. End result is fantastic though - great job!

My only concern is that the crew compartment doesn't look big enough to hold the driver unless he cut his legs off at the knees. Everything else looks great!

this is not an issue in 40k, though i'd have to think guardsmen are so useless that he probably isn't a saved man, just someone hurt during training or stubbed his toe.

Looking good, but I liked seeing the arms of the guardsman poking out the sides before, similar to how the pilots in Avatar used their arms to direct those of the walker.
Other than that, solid build and very good-looking. Good luck with the painting!
