Dallas Texas

This weekend a Local Store in Dallas was hosting a 1500 RTT.

I thought it would be a fun place to chill for the day so I went.

The night before I came up with a 1500 List that has some good things going for it.

1500 Eldar List

Farseer, Jetbike, Fortune, Witness, Warding.
6x Warlocks, 6x Jetbikes, Enhance, 2x Embolden

5 Fire Dragons
Wave Serpent, SCannon
5 Fire Dragons
Wave Serpent, SCannon
5 Fire Dragons
Wave Serpent, SCannon

5 Dire Avengers
Wave Serpent, ScatterLaser
5 Dire Avengers
Wave Serpent, ScatterLaser
5 Dire Avengers
Wave Serpent, ScatterLaser

Tournament

16 Players showed up, which was alot.

There was NO GREY KNIGHT PLAYERS There was a dark eldar, couple orks, space wolves galore, CSM, Tyranid, and a couple space marines.

The only problem with the tournament, was the TO's really screwed up the pairings round 2 and 3. Round 2 and Round 3 were basically randomly paired. Round 3 The First and Second player got paired, while the 3rd player got some kid who was 0-2. Besides that tho the tourney was pretty fun.

Game 1- Uncompetitive game against new Ork player.
Game 2- Surprisingly competitive game vs. Codex Marines
Game 3- Competitive game with Richie's Space Wolves (guy who I played In round 3 last week).

Game 1
Spoiler:

4 Objectives (White circle papers).
Dawn of War Deployment.
Green circles are difficuly terrain that expand an inch every turn.

Michaels list

Ghazghkull Thraka
Warboss
9x lootas
28xBoys
28xBoys
11xNobz, 11x CombiRockets, Truck
6x Warbikes
2x Warbuggies, Twin Linked Big shootas.
2x Warbuggies, Shoots and Skortcha
Deff Dred

Michael was a younger kid newer to the game. I basically spent the 2 hours teaching him the game, and I took it pretty easy on him.

He gave me first turn. I deployed in a spread out line from DoW. My Goal was to Control my own two objectives, while tank shocking him off his own.

Turn 1 I shoot into the truck stunning it. He then comes on the board and does nothing. I then shoot, Blow up the Truck with the nobz in the center, killing 2. I then shoot the Lootas down to 2 and they run off the board. Turn 2 he unloads 8 combi rockets on a wave serpent and its immobolized on the objective. I then fire dragon his Dred, I shoot the buggies and destroy them. My seer council moves up the left flank, Shoots the Bikes killing them, and then assaults the nobs turn 4. Turn 4 I contest his objectives with full seer council and tanks, and then I have my own objectives.

Hope he enjoyed the game, and good luck to him in the future as he learns the game!

Game 2

Spoiler:

Game 2 the pairings are messed up. I get a kid who got beat bad by Richie last round, one of Michaels friend and another new tournament player.

Capture and Control
Pitched Battle

Jefferys Vanilla Marine List

Librarian- Vortex of Doom, Hood.

Ironclad Dred, Melta/CCW (Mabe one of these was a regular dred to make the list legal lol)
Ironclad Dred, Melta/CCW

10x Marines, Flamer, Drop Pod
10x Marines, Flamer
10x Marines, Flamer, Rhino

3x Bikes, Attack Bike Multi Melta
3x Bikes
2x ScoutBikes, Sargent
5x Assault Marines.

Predator, TL Lascannon
Predator, TL Lascannon

Objectives are both on the left side of the board.

He has a pretty bad list, My goal is to fire dragon his AV12 and to shoot and assault the rest of his army with my seer council. Ill then contest with my skimmers.
The only thing I need to watch out for is his psychic hood.

Eldar Deployment

I win the roll off to go first.

I place my Tanks in a Row behind cover in case he seizes.
I place my seer council centrally to get a turn 2 assault on his drop pod squad.
I place my Farseer in coherency on the board edge to avoid his hood.

Space Marine Deployment

He deploys on my side of the board. Both predators in the open to my left.
Dreds in the middle together.
Bikes and assault marines to my far right.
His Rhino with 10 guys is in the middle.
He then combat squads into 2 squads of 5, with his librarian with the squad of 5.

Eldar 1

I fortune my seer council, they spread out and farseer moves away from the hood.

Fire Dragons Turbo Boost towards his preds, and dreds, and end up very close.

I shoot 3 scatterLasers into his Libby unit, and kill off 3 marines.

Marines 1

His Drop pod comes in right next to my seer council.

Rhino moves up in middle. Bikes move up as well. Assault marines move up.

He RapidFires into my seer council killing a normal guy.
His Predators shoot into my Wave Serpent far left. With 2 shots and cover saves he blows up the serpent, killing 3, and pinning the guys inside.
His Dreds shoot at my far right fire dragon wave serpent. With 2 shots and cover saves he blows up the serpent.
His Libby casts Vortex of Doom, He Perils, I then roll 2 1's and neither of them take wounds.

Eldar 2

Instead of Having 3 squads of assaulting fire dragons, with 3 tanks getting rear armor shots, I now have 2 squads of assaulting fire dragons, with 1 tank getting rear shots.

Seer council casts fortune, and moves 1" away from tacticals that dropped in.
Fire Dragons get out and move for shots on Preds/Dreds.

I shoot Scatter Serpents into the Libby and the Tac Marine and kill the Tac marine.
I shoot Fire Dragons into a dred and take a MM off, I then charge in and dont do anything.
I shoot into a pred and blow it up.
I shoot a cannon into the rear of another pred and dont do anything.

I then Shoot Seer council into Tac Squad, causing 9 or so wounds, nothing dies.
I then assault seer council into tac squad causing like 12 wounds. I think he looses like 1.

So after around 20 wounds, he should have lost 6-7 but he looses 0-1. Lol.

Marines 2

Bikes move up, assault into my seer council.
Assault marines assault into my fire dragons, and whipe them.

Rhino stays still.
Libby Shoots a Vortex of Doom into my Wave Serpent in the Backfield. He Passes the test with warding, and Immobolizes the serpent with str8 (Lol).

His 2 Bike Squads assault into my Seer council.

We Exchange blows. I either loose none or 1. I put all my attacks into the tac squad and he looses 2 but the entire combat holds due to Space Marines being fearless.

Eldar 3

Fortune Bikes.

Squad of 5 Fire Dragons get into the immobolized serpent.

I shoot scatters into Libby, Killing him.
I shoot 3 fire dragons into far left pred, blowing it up.
I shoot into assault marines killing 3.

Combat sees a tactical marine die, and we tarpit for the rest of the game.

Marines 3

Dred shoots 1 melta into my back serpent, and destroy it, fire dragons pile out.
He shoots at fire dragons doing nothing.

We do combat and everything dwindles down.

Eldar 4

2 serpents move up to his objective.
1 serpent stays back.
I shoot 5 fire dragons into a dred, blowing it up.

I start shooting into his 5 marines on the objective, I kill 3.
Close combat dwindles down.

Marines 4

Close combat goes on and on.

Eldar 5

2 Serpents move onto his objective.
3 fire dragons shoot and immobolise his last dred.
Close combat ensues, his tactical squad is down to like 3 at this point.

Marines 5

derp.
In Close combat I win by 2. His Marine Bikes finally break and run 13" back.

Eldar 6

I move a serpent to within 6" of the retreating bikers.
Close combat keeps going on.
Tactical marines in the ruins on his objective are whiped.
Dred on his objective is destroyed from rear shots.
The lone assault marine is dead.

Space Marines 6

At this point he has 1 Scout Biker, and 2 Tactical Marines left in the Seer council Close Combat. Im down to 2 jetbikes and my Farseer.

He has nothing else left besides that Rhino with 10 guys in the middle that hasnt moved all game.

We roll and the game Ends Eldar 2, Space Marines 0

Game 2 Summary

I set up my deployment and Alpha strike perfectly. All I had to do was survive 4 str8 shots, and I would have destroyed his backfield. Unfortunantly he blew up 2 serpents, which made my job alot harder.
He plopped his tactical squad right next to my deathstar. I put 20+ wounds into the squad which didnt put a dent into it. The squad then tarpitted the entire game, with 3 of his squads. If my seer council had broken or gotten whiped, I would have lost the game hands down, but luckily with 3++ armor saves I was able to hold the entire game. I should have put my attacks into the 4+ scout bikers, but he had them modeled with power armor and they were a proxy , so I didnt notice this till turn 5 where I made his bikers break. If I had known he was proxying earlier I would have won the game.

Pretty close game, Towards the middle I was actually trying to win. Kind of weird how a maxed Eldar list with alot of experience had trouble against a terrible Space Marine list with a non experienced player. W/E thats life.

If his list would of been better, with Powerfists, more meltas, and if he would have moved that last rhino to contest, I might have lost the game. (He didnt move the rhino the whole game because there was a +2 point modifier for having a troops at max, and he wanted those 2 points).

Game 3

There a couple of people who are 2-0. Kenny with his IG Air Cav are 2-0, Richie with his space wolves are 2-0, and Im 2-0. Theres also a demons player whos in the running.

Game 3 I get paired against Richie, Whoever wins this wins the tournament.

Spoiler:

Richie's Space Wolves List

RunePriest, Jaws, Lightning

5x Grey Hunters, Melta
Rhino
5x Grey Hunters, Melta
Rhino
5x Grey Hunters, Melta
Razor, Lasplas
5x Grey Hunters, Melta
Razor,Lasplas

5x Scouts, Melta

2x Speeders, MM and HeavyBolter
2x Speeders, MM and heavyBolter

Vindicator
5x Longfangs, 2x missiles, 2x lascannons
5x Longfangs, 2x missiles, 2x lascannons

Deployment:Spearhead
Game: Kill Points

I win the roll off and elect to go first.

Tactic Talk

I feel like I have a pretty good handle against his list. I have alot of survivablity. He has longfangs, but besides that not a real lot of Anti Tank. Hes running MSU Grey hunter squads, and I can easily whipe those with fire from anything, assaults from jetbike squad. My goal here is to kill the rune priest so my seer council has free reign. I should try and get fire dragons on the vindicator. The Speeders are easy kill points, as well as the razorbacks. Overall I need to pop transports, and kill the stuff inside quickly. This will be a close game, as the spacewolves list will be well played.

Eldar Deployment

I deploy troop serpents behind cover on the bottom right part of the board.
I deploy fire dragons on the 12" bubble line to go kill stuff.
I deploy seer council centrally, I make a line with the farseer in back to be out of hood range turn 1.

Space Wolves deployment

Scouts go into reserve and Wolflank.
Longfangs go into a ruin in the back left. I have cover on every serpent due to terrain.
He deploys Speeders in back rune priest in front, and everything in a large square.

Richie Rolls to steal, and does

This is aweful. Although my entire army has cover saves and 4+ invul saves, Im going to take a smacking. My seer council doesnt have fortune, Im also not spaced out. His vindicator can easily take down 50% of the council, and the rest of his army has enough shots to disable 3+ tanks or the rest of the council. Blah.

Space Wolves 1

He moves his army up.

Closer Speeders move to Melta a wave serpent.
Everything else moves up to get shots on my army.

His Speeders open up on my Far left wave serpent. He misses.
His Vindicator opens up on my Seer council, He hits but I only loose 1.
First squad of Longfangs open up on a tank, 3 misses and he fails to do anything.
2nd squad of longfangs opens up, Fails to do anything.
Las Plas Razors shoot at tanks, nothing happens.
His RunePriest Rolls Living Lightning on my Seer council, He Perils due to warding although the Attack goes off and puts a wound on the farseer.
He shoots some lower str stuff into the seer council, and I put another wound on the farseer.

Overall a pretty amazing turn for me. He only managed to kill a jetbike, and put wounds on the farseer. I lost nothing. Richie's dice were absolutly horrid this turn.

Eldar 1

I cast Fortune on my jetbikes, He is within 24" but rolls a 2 and fortune goes off. His Dice are horrid.

I move my Jetbikes up as close as I can get to his RunePriests Rhino. I plan to blow it up with fire dragons, then assault the guys inside taking away his hood.
My Fire Dragons move up to kill the Rhino.
My other fire dragons move to melta Landspeeders. This sounds a little stupid but they dont have cover, and its an easy kill point. It also negates him 2 str8 shots. I have the ability, and it will weaken my opponent, so why not.

Everything else moves around for shots.

I shoot 5 Fire Dragons into his Landspeeders, I destroy them gaining a kill point.
I shoot 5 Fire Dragons into the runepriests Rhino. I get 2 Pens and only Destroy it, The Runepriest and his squad bail out the back.

I shoot the SeerCouncils twinlinked catupults into t hem, I do alot of wounds.
I also shoot a couple scatter lasers into the squad, WOUNDS ARE ALLOCATED to the runepriest multiple times, but hes able to pass around 3-4 on the runepriest.
I shoot at a Razorback and take a weapon off and shake it.
Shooting overall sees the runepriests squad lowered down to 2 models including the runepriest. They fail combat, and run backwards. Unfortunantly they are like less than half an inch from my seer council and can regroup next turn.

During the assault Phase my jetbikes use their 6" assault move to spread out for the vindicators blast. I roll difficult and loose a Warlock because he drove his jetbike into a tree? Bear in mind I rolled a 1, then failed my 4++ invul save.

Decent Turn for me. I was able to take out 3 incomming str8+ rounds. I was also able to put alot of pressure on the runepriests squad bringing it down to 2. I really needed to blow up the Rhino and then assault in, but I wasnt able to. That would have directed the outcome of the game, because I would have freely gotten fortune off, and I would have been up by 2 more kill points.

Space Wolves 2

He roll's for his scouts. I realize that I havent moved any of my vehicles, and that if he comes in on my board edge Im probably going to loose 2 wave serpents. Luckily they DONT come in.

All his GreyHunters Bail out.
His runepriest joins a full squad, while the 1 guy just stands there.
He prepares to assault both my fire dragon squads.

He shoots a vindicator into my Jetbikes, nothing happens.
He then spams all his longfangs and razor into my Jetbike squad. I make some insanly stupid amount of invul saves, and pass like 9 in a row.
His Landspeeders shoot into my fire dragons sofening them.

He then assaults into both fire dragon squads, whiping 2 of them. He also multi assaults into their transports with Krak Grenades, but doesnt roll any 6's.

Eldar 2

I cast fortune, It Goes off. His Runepriest blocks it.

I plan to get 2 squads of dire avengers out, and to kill the Grey Hunters closest to my board edge. I also plan to kill the landspeeders as they are an easy kill point. I also plan to multi assault my jetbikes into his Longfangs and the lone grey hunter for 1 kill point and to tie up alot of his ranged shooting.

I move my dire avengers out, and I give them a pretty pro shield with my Dire Avengers hoping that he wont be able to assault my next turn.
I move my seer council, and loose another Warlock to dangerous terrain rolls.

I shoot 10 Dire avengers into the Grey Hunters, and am able to kill 3-4. I then shoot a couple wave serpents into them to finish the job giving me kill points 3-2.
I shoot into his Speeders, I blow up 1 and then stun the other, making the squad useless next turn.
I shoot my seer council into his longfangs, I cause like 9 wounds and he passes them all.
I then assault his longfangs, but I put my seer council 2 close so they were able to move to unengaged models in cover so I didnt get the multi assault off and I was at initiative 1.

He attacks me , and his longfangs get 2 attacks each because space wolves are broken. I loose 1 Warlock. I respond with attacks and get like 8 wounds or so. He allocates them, and I either loose combat by 1 or we tie combat. Either way we lock.

Overall Im doing pretty well. If I can kill his scouts when they come in, and get a few more cracks at certain stuff I think I can turn the tide in my favor. Hes down to 1 Razorback and 1 squad of longfangs for shooting, thats it.

Space Wolves 3

He sets up a multi assault into my Seer Council with the Runepriest's squad and the solo squad.

He Shoots into my empty Fire Dragon Serpent next to his longfangs, and hes able to destroy it.

He then assaults into my Seer council. I make attacks back first, and Im able to kill the champion and the lone guy, giving me another KP.
He then responds, and knocks out my last 2 warlocks leaving the Farseer.

Eldar 3

I cast fortune on my lone farseer with 1 wound left. He Perils himself, Fails his 3+ ghosthelm, and dies, Leaving his longfang squad untouched.

I move 1 wave serpent to finish off the last speeder that turbo boosted into a corner.
I re-embark my dire avengers, and move stuff around to get shots.
I move everything more than 7", and I try to avoid rear armor next to table edges for the incomming scouts.

I shoot into his landspeeder killing it, giving me another kill point.
I then shoot into a lascannonless razorback, Im able to immobolize/weapon to make it a box, but I couldnt grab a kill point out of it.

Space Wolves 4

His scouts come in on my left table edge, they shoot and assault my serpent taking a weapon off and stunning it.
He shoots into a dire avenger serpent blowing it up.
He shoots into 2 more serpents taking weapons off both of them.
He shoots into a DAVU serpent to my left, Destroys it, then kills all the dire avengers inside.

this turn he picked up 3 kill points, and made basically all my wave serpents tin boxes.

This leaves me with 1 wave serpent with a working weapon, 1 fire dragon squad (that if I loose, costs me a +2 tertiary for keeping an elite alive). 1 Dire Avenger squad in a serpent, and one in the open.

Eldar 4

Im Down by 3 kill points. The only way I can win is to shoot the rear armor of a rhino, Blow it up, then use my fire dragons and DAVU inside to kill the guys inside for another kill point.

I shoot my scatter Laser into the rear of the rhino, and I dont do anything.

At this point I have 1 working tank left, and he has a razorback, vindicator, 2 longfang squads, and 2 grey hunter squads left. I cant come back to get 3 kill points.

I turbo boost everything away, out of range.
We go to turn 6, the game ends.

Space Wolf Kill Points - 9
Eldar Kill Points- 5

Game/Tournament Recap

They tally up points for the tourey. Richie got first, Kenny and his undefeated air cav got 2nd (he played an 0-2 player in round 3, TO messed up). Demons got third. I got 4th and 25$ prize support!

I looked around for Jeffery my 2nd round opponent to tell him to spend my 25$. He left so I ended up buying some paint.

I played 3 games. 2 Games were against un-experienced players. 1 Game was against Richie who thwarted me out of first place for the 2nd time in 2 weeks

I think I played solid game 1-2, but that doesnt mean anything.

Game 3. I had a solid strategy, which was to put pressure on the runepriest, and his longfangs. I deployed with cover. Unfortunantly he seized, but even tho he seized he didnt do alot of damage. I was able to set up a turn 2 assault that would have won the game, but unfortunantly it didnt go off. It was a close game, but round 4 when his scouts came in, and his dice LIT UP, he was able to take 3 wave serpents out of commission. In order for me to win that game, my seer council needed to do something. His runepriest was able to shut them down pretty easily, and they just compleatly flopped against the longfangs (not to mention I lost 2 warlocks to difficult terrain). My Dice werent bad, they were actually a little above average. I made an insane amount of invul/cover saves. Richie's dice were pretty poor turn 1-2. Im not sure really what I could have done differently, but turn 3 If I had killed the longfangs, I think I would have had the momentum to use my DAVU and Fire dragons to put him on the defensive, but overall he was able to overpower me for a turn and I wasnt able to catch up.

Fun Tournament, Good practice, Fun Saturday.

Thanks for reading, and Please post a comment about anything. Tactics/pictures/anything

I've been patiently waiting to see the update, my pdiction is you won. I love Richies 1850 list but I think his 1500 list is not nearly as strong.

Well played on your part in both games 1 and 2, I have been reading and enjoying the reports and I understand it is nice to have some acknowledgement of a job well done. Nothing worse than spending a lot of time on reports when it seems like no one is reading it!

I have not looked yet, I am betting the wolves take it because my Faith in Mech Eldar is weak

Edit: Just finished reading and a quick question - Living Lighting put a wound on the farseer it seemed? Wouldn't that ID him since bike toughness upgrades do not change the ID threshold (could be different for the ancient Eldar). Also, is there a reason you did not use the Jetbike move to get within 6" of the Runepriest so he continued fleeing? Otherwise that is a tough matchup for you, I Do not think you made any major mistakes, but the small ones always add up against wolves.

All I can say is that Brad is a tough opponent for me and I was looking forward to facing him again in round three of this tournament.

The bad thing was in this tournament both of us played the same opponents and for each of these opponents it was their first tournament. I did have a talk with the tournament organizer about that.

Great job on the battle report for this week and last week and look forward to seeing you on the final table again in the next one.

Yea that would of instant killed the farseer, so that means I probably didnt allocate that to him. After turn 1 shooting I had 2 wounds on the farseer and a bike dead, not sure what exactly did it.

As far as moving the 6 inches he rolled leadership after shooting and fell back after shooting, I think when I made me assault move I was either a fraction of an inch away or didnt move far enough. Thats a good point tho.

As far as mistakes I made, one huge mistake I made was not moving my tanks 7" for the scouts, but luckily they didnt come in that turn. Im not sure I made any tactical mistakes, but I wanted to be alot more aggressive, buy the only aggressive element to the list is the seer council, and after they kind of fell apart my army just didnt have the momentum to keep going.

One thing I did learn when comparing the latter game to this game, is that Longfangs are the most important thing on the field when concerning mechdar vs space wolves, and in the future I need to spend alot of effort getting the longfangs off the table.
