Anyways, My "old" gw foundation paints are running out and I have no intention of purchasing the new gw paints.

What would be your guys' recommendations for a paint range that has great covering abilities and a broad spectrum of colours. Pot or dropper bottle, I don't care.

Also, what would be a good replacement for the old GW washes?

Thanks,

Julien.

What's wrong with the current paint range?

Anyhow, I hear vallejo does a decent job.

The foundation paints in the gw range are excellent. I have both Vallejo and GW base paints.. Both are excellent

Plus the GW washes are much better than the older ones. I would not count them out until you tried them.

The Vallejo Extra Opaque range is a pretty spot on match for the old GW Foundations.

I would suggest the citadel base range. Also the citadel shade range, for your other queston.

I second using Vallejo's Extra Opaque line. Best covering dark red I've ever used.

GW's Base range and perhaps the shades are the only things that paint line has going for it.

I've not used the Vallejo extra opaques yet actually, but they're certainly on my shopping list. Seconded with the new GW paints too, though i'm leaning towards not liking the new shades either now i've been testing them for a while. They've got their uses but it's so dang annoying to have to change my working process now that they've ditched one of the greatest products us mini painters have ever seen.

Master Sheriff - As suggested above, you should try the Vallejo extra opaques, and certainly the new GW Bases too (whose coverage is comparable to the old Foundations, but handling and quality is significantly improved).

Alright, I'll try and snag some Vallejo extra opaques. I have blackgreen and quite like it, great coverage. I'll try and get them in as many colours as I need and supplement them with the new gw base paints.

As far as the new "shades", I hate them. They are thinner now, which means you get less for your money. If I want thinned wash I'll just add some water....

Also, they fall way too much with gravity, they have way too much emulsion fluid. When I went to wash the eyes of my marine red, all the wash dribbled down and went into his aquila, not fun.

Also, I find the new washes do shade the recesses fairly well, but not the surface. I like how the old washes shaded the surfaces and the recesses of my miniature, giving depth everywhere....

Honestly it sounds like you used to much to shade the eyes, a little bit of it goes a long way. You could make your own washes for your army using les' method in the tutorial section.
