Greetings Everyone!
I've been working on magnetizing my marines, specifically their backpacks so they can be swapped out for banners and jump-packs. The problem I've come to is that the backpacks swivel on the magnet causing them to look silly or lopsided. I'd like to correct this and am looking for some advise from the customization community.
Here are some thoughts I've had, if anyone has tried this before please let me know:
Hot Glue Gun - I've been told this works but when I tried it the glue wouldn't stick on the backpack. Has anyone tried this? If so did it work. I'd love to use as it would give me a permanent attachment until I gave it a good yank. It wouldn't harm the plastic either as far as I can tell either.
Dual Magnets - I was thinking of getting a 1/16' magnet to put right above the previous one to stabilize it. This seems a difficult solution but something that I'm sure would fix assuming the magnet is strong enough.
Square Magnet - I was thinking about this yesterday. Can I take a Square Magnet and turn it sideways into a diamond. I was thinking this would cause the pack to be forced into that position?

Well... may I ask how you do the magnetizing?
Because I never faced the problems you mentioned.
I'm using 2mm magnets btw.

Magnetise them as you are now, then drill a hole in the marine slightly above the magnet and put in a sturdy pin (just like you were pinning it permanently). glue it in place, then drill a corresponding hole in each backpack. They'll still be removable, but the pin/socket arrangement prevents swiveling.

...That is...that is simple and effective...I'll give this a try! Automatically Appended Next Post: Enzephalon wrote:Well... may I ask how you do the magnetizing?

I guess you'd say that I'm using the standard way. Drilling a hold in the back and on the backpack putting a magnet in each and gluing them flush.

Pin+magnet combo is my advice, like Charax suggests. The pin gives you a strong mechanical joint that counters the torquing of heavy or projecting parts - the magnet merely maintains the proper angle and keeps the part from popping off the pin. It should work nicely for backpacks and banners; it really shines when dealing with seriously unwieldy parts, like kan/dread arms.

square magnet on the model/square hole (round or square magnet) on the backpack would also work. Pinning would probably be easier though

Thank You to everyone who assisted!
I'm going to try the pinning and magnet combo and report back!
