Subject: Massive Narrative Campaign....

I myself love narrative battles and campaigns, and I don't think I'm alone in this regard. I believe the majority of fantasy players at the very least acknowledge the importance of story and the critical role of fluff in adding depth to a game. I love turning those cool water cooler stories into an ongoing series of events that make up the saga of an army. It is with that in mind that I would like to propose a fun idea (moderators feel free to post this in a different section if I am posting this erroneously) of a large scale narrative campaign. Strictly for the purpose of adding fluff to our individual armies.
I remember about 10 years ago GW did a huge, worldwide campaign that anyone who had an internet connection could participate. You would log in and give an abridged battle report (basically just saying what armies were involved and who won) and then the results were tallied and the narrative would continue on with nods given to certain spectacular battles but overall the main general storyline was influenced by a massive collection of players. I thought it was a blast to log in my battles to this campaign. It gave them purpose and turned my then 2000 point dwarf army into a grim and determined relief force sent to aid their human allies in their fight against the chaos hordes. It made me become far more attached to my characters. Even individual warriors began to develop little back stories and families with wee beardlings waiting for them to come back home. It was a blast to watch the drama unfold.
I would like to see if there would be any interest in something similar, though far smaller in scale. I for one would love to see such a project come into reality and even have a good start for a story behind the campaign. Is even be willing to contribute my writing skills (such as they are) to the realization of this project and would be willing to help manage it, but it would need to be a community effort, and for all I know dakkadakka has already done something like this. But I would love to see this dream become real. I wonder what you all think of this?

I like the idea, so I'm interested. But my opponents are rather limited, and that might be an issue if we cannot gather enough participants. I think.

It's herding cats. And you have all kinds of people with all kinds of play styles. I think it's best to start small and do that local.
Become a GM and post some stories about each battle and encourage all the players to make back stories on their guys that can be incorporated.

That's kinda the feeling I'm getting. There was something unifying about a massive scale campaign that anyone who wanted to could join. But I agree, it would be hard to manage, especially on such a wide scale.

I love narrative campaigns but anything too large in scale is a nightmare to manage

They did this on Miniwargaming, it lasted a few weeks before filtering out, I remember being one of the large players and the only one using Chaos Dwarfs, along with some of my friends
It could work, but needs a lot of organizing and imagination from the organizers, not to mention it'd be hard to keep track of everything, but not impossible

Well, there would have to be some major clarifications right from the get-go that this would be for fluff building purposes, so it would be encouraging to keep a log of your own battles and write up your own stories to go along with it. I think it would take its own website, or blog or something. But there would be no way to incorporate every player who submits, but those that submit the most compelling battle reports, as well as those who submit the most often, would more than likely get the most nods in the overall storyline. In the end I think it would devolve into a number crunching nightmare that would be all consuming for a few weeks.
