I'm currently in the process of painting up my Daemonettes.

The thing is, I want them each of them to have slightly different colours per miniature. The colour combinations are pink, purple, black and blue.
Is this allowed or not? And, more importantly, would you take issue with someone having painted their troops in this fashion?

This is the first unit I've ever painted. I may well paint them up, put them together, and realise that my unit just looks awful with them all being painted differently...
(Um.. Yeah, I'm actually thinking that's pretty damn possible at this point in time, so perhaps I'll go with more uniformity going on with these girls/guys/its)...

However, I still think it'd be very interesting to get your thoughts on this.

You can paint them as you like, I have different units, that are the same, but with different colors so its easy to know which unit they belong to.

Painting different units with different colour schemes makes more sense to me.

I wanted each different miniature of the same unit painted differently so that each one kind of stands out more to me as an easily recognisable unique character... But the downside is, is that I can imagine the appearance of the unit as a whole looking more... annoying / muddled with a clash of very different colours for each model.

I think I'll go with giving them all the basic pink / purple / black colour scheme as a whole, but add little tattoo-like flourishes to each one to personalize them. That may work better methinks. We shall see!

Your second idea is a good one. Iwas going to suggest you use different spot colours on them, for example painting gems different colours. Perhaps you could do the same with the tattoos?

you could always paint the rims of the bases a uniform color by unit to keep them clearly identifiable.

Paint them the way you think is the coolest. At the end of The day they're you're minis and I can't imagine anyone being such a tool they would criticize your color choices.

There are no rules saying your minis have to be painted in a certain scheme or way. And with chaos, well it would make more sense that they wouldn't all be uniform.

So long as you stay within reason I think it's great, especially for Daemons. For something like IG it's not reasonable since they all get the same outfits/armor/weapons etc. But Daemons are a whole other ballgame. Slaanesh especially I think should be different colors because of their lust of indulgence in all senses. Just maybe make sure you keep them almost similar. Don't make one dark grey, one dark purple, one dark blue, and then one BRIGHT PINK WITH BUTTERFLIES. I know that's what you were gonna do. Sorry to shoot it down.

I'd make sure that if you do them all differently, you do something to unify the unit. My Fiends of Slaanesh are all different colours, but their hooves, manes, and eyes are all the same, so when taken together, you see a cohesive whole, in spite of the individual differences.

Lol! Being female, I should probably prepare myself for people expecting butterflies on my minis... NO BUTTERFLIES under ANY circumstances! XD

To clarify, by tattoos, I mean ZIS -

Semi-painted, and this is my first ever ever paint job, so... go easy! - Ah put mah feels into her um.. leg.

Didn't know you were a girl, so maybe the lack of bias will make you feel better. The picture didn't work for me =(

I'm already doing the same though I'm trying to restrict it to skin tones as I'm not sure if swapping over to having blue mixed through the units will look any good. Obviously I see no problem with it as long as they look good or at least had effort put into it.

Something which I am going to be doing for my Cadians when I settle down and work on them again is to add a colored "stripe" to the left shoulderpads designating the unit.

You don't really have armor which you can do that with, but the loincloths and the like could easily be a place to do that on your Daemonettes.

They could just be tattoos if that were the case.

Tattoos are also a way to do so, but I'm never confident painting them.

Both Cave_dweller and Redbeard are absolutely right; they're your minis, so do whatever you think is coolest. There are no rules when it comes to painting, only suggestions. Most people are just happy to have an opponent and would never dream of objecting to your paint scheme. With that in mind, it does make a unit look more cohesive if they all have at least one color in common; for example, if their clothing is all based the same color, or if they all had the same color eyes, or something.

The pic doesn't show for me either. I think that it kind of depends on the role you want the unit to serve. Units that are given distinct, individual appearance attract more visual attention (which means they tend to attract more in-game attention). Units which are generally line troopers or more elite shock troops should probably have some degree of uniformity. The tattoos would be a great idea to give them some individuality. Maybe some variation in the individual skin/hair tones would be nice too. That being said, I think that it adds a great deal of flair to units of irregulars when they have no real uniformity. I play both Space Marines and Tau, and my Tau show both sides of this coin. My regular Fire Warriors and whatnot are all identical. The Kroot have quite a bit more individuality, with feathers, beads, and individual clothing colors as the mood strikes me. The Vespid are intended to be a decoy unit, (so I want attention on them) and are painted a series of garish pinks, yellows, and purples. I hope that helps.

Thanks muchly for the input everyone. I fixed the pic, hopefully it works okay now.

I think I'm going to go with the tattoos being the distinguishing / unique features for each of my daemonettes. Maybe with small variations on the hair and armour but nothing that will make them look too muddled when put together.

I like what your doing with your models, i kinda do the same thing in that they all have blue skin but hair, tattoos, cloth etc. are slightly different shades/ patterns to make each one an individual. If you look in my thread i think i have some examples of what i mean. Anyway, i hope that helped

1 - people have different colour skin (even in the same ethnic group)
2 - if that's your first try you're going the right way - great job!

Its not bad, for your first one, I believe you have a excellent base. I agree with bubber, you could also have different ethnics in the daemonetts. I think it would be awesome honestly.
