Does anyone know the background to the Tesla tech. in the Necron Army?

I kind of got the impression that the were playing off of the near-mythical status that Tesla has gained, particularly amongst gamers, and affiliating that with the technology-verging-on-the-magical flavor of the Necrons.

Its based on the work of a Serbian scientist named Nikola Tesla. He invented alternating current electricity supply.

The Necron Tesla weaponry refers to some work he did later in life called a Teleforce weapon. Essentially a direct energy weapon or lightining gun if you will

Also, one of Tesla's main projects was the wireless transfer of energy. So...

Why do all of the Immortals have wires dangling from their guns?

Surely it'd be simpler to have wires up to the point where you want to have the energy jump to a distant point...
I mean i don't remember a lot in physics but AFAIK it's easier for waves and electricity to pass through most solids than it is gases...

Obviously the wires connect to the reciever located on the Necron's back. Thats where the power is transferred remotely, from generators on the Tomb World.

So the energy can just dozens, maybe even thousands of light years to the Immortal or Warrior, but the energy can't make it the next foot or so to the weapon?

While we're here, why do the Necrons even need to do that? Why don't their weapons have their energy sources built in? They have weapons that can shoot bullets at FTL speeds, but when it comes to Gauss weaponry, I guess it's just a bit too much.

Well, obviously the equipment is slightly too bulky to fit into the gun, so it needs to be built into the wielder.

It would also be one more set of wireless relays that doesn't need to be there. No body said the Necrons weren't practical, if you don't need to do something why do it?
