I'm quite divided on leaping into Necrons or Nids right now. After seeing the new Wraiths& Spyders, I'm pretty well sold on Necrons at this point.
Here is what I'm thinking for the core of the list:
Necrons - 2000
3 Crypteks - 3 Harbingers of Destruction, 1 Solar Pulse
3 Crypteks - 3 Harbingers of Destruction, 1 Solar Pulse
5 Warriors
5 Warriors
5 Warriors
6 Wraiths
6 Wraiths
Total - 865
As you can see, I have a ton of points to spare and I haven't even added HQs yet. I'm going to need 2 Lords if I want to run dual lance per Warrior squad.
Thoughts so far?

To take two solar pulses, you'll need two Overlords
for footslogging, I'd suggest taking Immotehk, and perhaps a vanilla OL with a CCB
Wraiths are a great choice, just give them some whip coils.
They also work great with Immotehk with his night fighting.
IF you do take immotehk, grab a chronotek, it'll boost the amount of night fighting you get.
For footslogging crons, a great tactic to to take a brick of 20, with a lord w/ a res orb, scythe, and MSS.
For further difficultly in killing, throw in a ghost arc to regen 1-3 warriors a round to them.

Would it be wise to take a squad of 10 Scarabs backed up by 3 Spyders?
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Currently, I'm thinking something like this:
Necrons - 2000
Overlord - Warscythe, Catacomb Command Barge
Overlord - Warscythe, Catacomb Command Barge
3 Crypteks - 3 Harbingers of Destruction, 1 Solar Pulse
3 Crypteks - 3 Harbingers of Destruction, 1 Solar Pulse
5 Warriors
5 Warriors
5 Warriors
6 Wraiths
6 Wraiths
Annihilation Barge

Total - 1405
600 points to spare.

I like how that list looks, but yes, scarabs backed up by spiders (ah-la) scarab farming is quite effective, and your two solar pulses are enough night fighting to at least usually make sure the scarabs get there, even without Immotehk.
I'd also suggest another A. Barge, They're very cost effective.
I don;t know if you have thought about it, but grab 2-3 whip coils in each wraith group, makes them devastating in assault, reducing all models in base contact to I1.
Two CCB's are excellent, i'd consider a weave or MSS on each of them to help them out if they ever get their rides blown out from under them, and with the pulses, they'll be likely to make it in to make some real damage.

I've found 2 Annihilation barges and a squad of 3 Canoptek scarabs to be a very effective use of the heavy support slot. I tend to lean towards 2 smallish scarab squads though. Scarabs have some very hard counters such at Str 6+ templates or blasts. Running 2 squads is cheap insurance although if you are running 2 wraith squads 1 squad is all you can manage.

I just think the new Wraith and Spyder models are so drool-worthy. I'm excited at the prospect of taking 12.
I haven't decided yet if I'd like to go no- AV or have a fair mix. I'm not interested in fielding something like 2 CCBs, 2 Stalkers, 3 Ghost Arks, and 3 ABs. I don't think I'd enjoy that very much.

I'd say that having 21 warrior framed modes without much else protection as your only scoring units, is going to make you a bit vulnerable. I'll also add that a ghost ark will add to your saturation of av13 and help out your foot warriors a lot. A warrior squad with 2 lords charging out of an ark is a really heavy hammer to help with your other close combat elements, while being incredibly hard to remove between the 2 mind shackle scarabs and the regenerating warrior buffer.

I think a larger squad or two in an Ark could really benefit the whole army. I don't think every unit needs one though.

Ghost Arks are the Swiss army knife of the Necron codex:
-mobile cover for units behind them
-gun boat for Lance-tek fire teams
-Warrior regenerator for large bricks
-more dakka support
-and coming soon for Apocalypse, AV15 makers! (there's an Apoc formation using Ghost Arks that increases the AV rating of Quantum Shielding for all close by Arks by one for every Ark in the formation. More details in the next WD).
TL;DR- they're good, you should give them a try.

I'm actually thinking about postponing any purchases until 6th edition releases, since it seems the FoC may be changing or removed entirely.
Initially, I wanted to try something like 12 Wraiths and 3 Tomb Spyders. I didn't realize they were $33 each.

Well if you aren't playing in a gt any time soon I really recommend checking out puppets war dot com. Their wraith pack and spider w/ scarabs packs are waaaay cheaper and are just as characterful to my eye.

Best to put up a completed list
As you said, you need Overlords or some HQ which allows Royal Courts. As your Warriors are on foot, then I would take a large unit of Scarabs and add Canoptek Spyders too, make a super swarm. I would be better to merge some Warriors into large squads, as small squads won't last a huge amount of time.

I think I'm going to hold off until 6th to see how the FoC changes (or not). I'd rather not spend $500-600 on an army and have to put more money into it in 2 months.
